Good evening everyone, I've been lurking on the forum for a while but this is my first post. I finally taken the plunge and taken delivery of a Hanse 348 (having been lusting after one for years )I'm looking to install a stereo in the saloon as one of my first projects. I've found the location pre-routed cut outs for both the stereo head unit and the port-side speaker. I can see from the stock photos that the starboard side speaker is on the end of the locker at the outboard end of the galley unit, facing forward. However I can't seem to find out how that panel is secured and more importantly how to access it so that I see where the pre-cut is. Can anyone guide me to either a technical drawing of where the cut out is, or preferable tell me how to remove that panel? On that note, any hints on how to detach the panel on which the VHF is mounted from within the locker. Any clues would be most gratefully received. Thanks in advance

Here’s something to try.
Some of the vertical flat wooden panels on my boat are held on by clips, such as the panels that cover the holding tanks in the heads. These panels can be removed by using the suction cup provided with your boat. Attach the cup to the panel and start pulling it away from the wall. The clips are usually one on each side midway from top to bottom. Just try and see if if you can feel any give as you try and pull the panel back. If it has the clips, you will start to hear them work free as the panel starts to come away. Sorry I don’t have any pictures. Don’t know what your particular setup is on the 348 but my VHF panel is just attached with four screws on the corners. Good luck.

A couple of Sonos powered speakers and an iPhone will give you great sound.

Hi All - follow up as promised. Firstly
thanks to Mike for the suggestion to use the plunger. Whilst that
didn't work for the starboard panels for the speaker, it certainly did
for the panel that houses the VHF and (eventually) the stereo. That's
solved half my problem. OK - to return to the starboard speaker position ![]() I've seen the Hanse Stock photos show a speaker install in the panel marked with the blue arrow. This is covered in a type of fabric so the plunger for panel removal doesn't hold vacuum to allow its removal that way. It seems really secure there. Similarly the panel marked with a red arrow is equally secure (and has a trim strip from the galley in front of it). The magic question is therefore - how do I get into the space behind the blue arrow panel to see whether there are any pre-machined speaker positions (as there are on the port side locker) Thanks again for everyone's interest. PS - Thanks for the comment about Sonos Duncan - we have those at home so I'm a convert to their systems already. However I already have the fusion radio and speakers (just need to get them installed ) |

You can try get to this space from the bottom. Even if there might be a wood panel there you can drill some access hole to let the wires in. Nobody will be able to see it anyway

Maybe the panel above the red arrow panel comes off?

Dear All - @marsella, sadly the panel above the red arrowed one is fixed solid too @Mike As for access from underneath, I did have a look. In the space immediately behind the seatback cushion there is one of the bits of battery charging kit (completely forget which one now - sorry. Drill up would be somewhat tricksy with this in the way but I'll have a dig around next time I'm onboard to see how easy this would be to temporarily move out of the way Thanks again everyone - really value your input

You may not even need actual access to this void, decide where you want to hang your speaker and where exactly the wiring goes inside the void, drill a small hole for the wiring, then take endoscope camera, insert into the hole and see if you can pass the wiring thru the void to your desired location of your radio.
