Following the success of the Hanse UK Open Weekend on Lake Windermere we are planning a Solent Hanse Rally on the bank holiday weekend of May 1st to 3rd 2004. The general idea is to meet up early afternoon on Saturday with dinner Saturday night. There will be some leisurely racing on Sunday morning and more socialising, perhaps a barbecue, on Sunday evening. Leaving Monday for more sailing or the passage home. The precise venue is yet to be decided and will depend largely on the number of participating boats, but will be somewhere within the Solent. We would also like to extend the invitation to those of you who sail elsewhere and cannot bring their own boat. Some local owners have already offered bunks. If you are planning to bring your own boat please let us know if you can offer berths for visitors. In order to ensure the weekend is successful we need to know the numbers attending. Please let us know if you are planning to attend and whether or not you will need bunks or accommodation. We will also need to know if you are bringing your own boat so that we can organise marina berths and ensure that all the boats are moored together. It would help if you could let us know if you are hoping to attend within the next month by emailing contact.us@hanseyachts.co.uk . We will provide more detailed information to willing participants in due course. |

Dear Dominic,
Many thanks for putting together and running the Hanse event this weekend. It was clear that you all worked very hard from start to finish. Your efforts were, I believe, well worth while. Both of the venues were new to me. It was also very nice to meet and share experiences with people who have also purchased similar boats as our own. The chance to race against some of them made it all the more interesting.
Sunday provided an interesting mix of weather, but at least we saw the fleet sail in light and moderate winds. Peter clearly organised the nice weather to start and finish in time with the event - the sun shone through as we approached Gosport Saturday afternoon and disappeared again at 6.30 on Monday morning - it was hammering down at 11.30 when we arrived back on our mooring! It was a really good fast sail home though - 17 to 18 knots of apparent wind.
Sorry we had to slip away so early, but my crew needed to be away in good time. For me this was the first real chance to put the boat through its paces and spend a few days on board - I wasn't disappointed. So, in summary, good weather, good sailing, good food and rafted up with a group of like minded people from around the UK - all sorts of lessons to be learned along the way.
Please pass on my thanks to Peter and the rest of team - I hope you also considered it to be a success, despite your undoubted fatigue tonight!
best regards
Graham Bromley

Subject: A good weekend
Hi Peter and friends,
We had a very enjoyable weekend of sailing and socialising and the friends and family who came with us, and who are all new to sailing, also had a great time. We are looking forward to doing it again next year.
It was the first time we have slept on the boat for a weekend. There was 5 of us onboard for both Saturday and Sunday night and we found it to be very comfortable with plenty of space - we even managed to cook a full english breakfast for 5 in our compact galley.
The sail back to base for us was quite a short trip, but was also great fun if rather wet. I hope all of the other boats got back OK.
We noticed that our photograph was taken on a number of occasions whilst out sailing and we were wondering if we could get some copies, to take pride of place on our wall!
Many thanks for all you efforts over the last year and for organising this event.
Best wishes,
Nicky & Steven - sunstar

Dear Peter and Dominic
Thank you so much for organising such an enjoyable Hanse Owners meeting. We all enjoyed the opportunity to meet other owners, and to have had a lot of fun in the process!
I am sure that you will have both been pleased with the result of your efforts.
Best wishes
Bryan Cresswell

Steven, I have just seen Dominic's photos and he has some nice ones of Sunstar sailing. I am sure he will make copies or scan them in as soon as he gets a chance. Drop him a line. Cheers,

Thanks to everyone that came to the rally, it really wouldn't have been much fun if no one turned up. I have got round to some photos on the net, they can be found at: http://www.doz.speedster.org.uk/hanse/ Hope you enjoy! |
