Hi,
Does anyone of you know the 'I' and 'J' -size? I'm thinking of buying a genoa on my 311. Thanks, Gregor |

Gregor,
I had a 138% genoa made by North this past winter according to the above J and I. They should have the cut and options (rope luff) on their worldwide database. It is a really nice sail that reefs very smooothly with the rope luff (much better than foam).

I found some documentation, left by the previous owner. He had his sails made at East sails and the documentation I found was made by Moritz sail (http://www.moritz-sail.de/). The mentioned I and J-sizes are:
I = 9.20mtr J = 3.13mtr I don't understand the difference between these sizes and the ones mentioned earlier. |

Be careful about the I measurement. Hanse has a tendency to use IG as the I measurement. One is to mast top (for masthead spinnakers) whilst the other is to the top of the forestay (i.e. for foresails). I strongly recommend to get your sailmaker to take the measurements themselves. Then you get what you order, and can place blame if things don't fit. Otherwise things get expensive. And yes, I am talking from experience....

I had the sailmaker on board (http://www.sailseast.com/home.htm ) and he quoted the Hanse folder with a genua size of 32.4sqm. This is about 150% I got a felling that this is quite big. What do you think? What are the size of your genua?
Thanks, G |

The question is rather, what wind speed are you going to use it in ?
And what is your budget ?
Are you sailing regatta whit a big crew or shorthanded ?
Is your main standard or with a max roach.

Thanks.
The wind: up till18-19knts
Budget:
I found East sails not that expensive (appr. 1300euro)I sail mostly shorthanded, however for a regatta, I sail with more people.
My main is still standard.

I don't know the answer.
But if you have a answer for these questions your sailmaker should be able to make you the right sail.
Go for a sail maker who knows the boat.
But if your budget is only one sail it should take wind up to 20 knots.
Befor you must change to a genova 3 (or the self tacker).
That sounds like a heavy 130 % on the 312.
Or a medium/heavy 140 % up to 16 knots wind.

Hi Gregor I have just purchased a complete new suit of sails for Annaletheia a Hanse 311 (No: 35). I had the boat measured by Hyde Sails and these are the measurements. Headsail LL - 11600 LP - 4500 HHW - 2170 Mainsail MUW - 776 MTW - 1374 MHW - 2443 Rig measurements P - 11700 * E - 4100 J - 3350 FL - 12400* * these measurements are accurate for our design purposes as they equate to the thickness of a pencil line when we draw out the design. Hyde built me some absolutely fantastic sails and you may get a good deal at the moment - ask for Wooderz and www.hydesails.com Alternatively I have my old 140% genoa - radial cut 4 years old. Hope this helps Colin Edited by Annalethia - 09 November 2006 at 21:50 |
