Hi Folks,
Happy holidays and hope everyone is well. Have a question regarding the shore power circuit on my 2019 Hanse 418. Went down to the boat to plug it in and charge the batteries and noticed that there was no AC joy. Shore power cord is connected to a 30amp circuit, then to boats AC inlet. Master AC panel under the chart table indicates presence of Shore Power with an illuminated green light, however the “Mains” green light above it does not illuminate and the AC voltage meter does not register any voltage even after flicking the breaker on and off. I also tested the circuit reset button, but to no avail. I did notice that the breaker has a small red and green indicator bar. When the breaker is off, that indicator is green, when I flip the breaker on, it turns red. I also checked the main breaker box in the aft starboard lazzarette to make sure it was on, which it was. Interestingly that breaker also has red/green indicator bars. In the on position they are red, but if I flip the breaker off, they are green. Any electricians out there with some thoughts on what’s happening, or any other owners that have run into a problem with their shore power circuits not powering up? Appreciate any advice you might be able to share. Thanks in advance! Cheers John

John,
One quick check you may want to do is ensure shore power is actually plugged to boat in stbd rope bin. It is easy for the screw connection to work loose, especially if cable is tangled with sheets so I would double check this first. We had this issue before and always this connection! Good luck. |

Hi John,
Do you have the Victron Multiplus option? Control switch needs to be in the 'on' or 'charge only' position. There is also a red circuit breaker on the front panel that may have tripped. Cheers.

Hi Tranquility,
Thanks for the note. I did verify that it was fully connected, in fact, unplugged it and replugged it several times just to make sure. Unfortunately that didn't resolve it. Best Regards, John

Hi Ian and Andrea,
Thanks for the suggestion. I do have the Victron MultiPlus and it is in the Charge Only position. Not sure which red circuit breaker you are referring to though. Is that breaker located in the same bay as the MultiPlus? Thanks!

Hi John,
There is a small 16A circuit breaker on the Multiplus front cover; small red button with '16A' below it. The red button pops out when it trips. Try pushing it in. Cheers.

I see you are in the US John so your Multiplus unit might be different to the European version. I Just checked Victron website; if you have a 120V version, there is no circuit breaker on the front panel. The manual has a trouble shooting guide which may be of help.
On our 445 which may or may not have a similar set-up, the voltmeter is on the output of the Multiplus. The lazarette RCD comes first, then the shore-off-generator switch (if you have it) then the Multiplus, then the second RCD (on AC panel) and finally the voltmeter. Hope some of that helps. Ian.

I assume the AC light for shore power is on but the meter on the boat says 0 volts? You are a US boat so my guess is you have a VICTRON ATR and that has a breaker on the front of it. Have you checked that? You can get 230V coming in but nothing will show 110V unless this is up. |
