Yep, it is a cheapo car sensor, notoriously unreliable in a boat.
Replace it with a magnetic rod sensor from Wema or Phlippi.

I found mine used to read 100% until it was about half full and then started to get a little more accurate.

see my post on replacing the factory automotive units with ultrasonic units that have no moving parts in the tank, these are brilliant.

it seems i have the same problem on a hanse 588...100% reading all the time. It's not the wurth, i swapped the tanks...

However, it is very complicated to access it (port side) and i don't even know the model to order a new one...does anybody know the precise model for a philippi replacement without changing anything else?

I had already done the water tank, but i can't find on boatoon the precise reference to the fuel tank sensors for the 588...

I just purchased a 2019 Hanse 588 and fuel tanks read 100%. What was your fix? Do you have link to parts supplier?

Thanks Johnny

I have not had this problem yet, but I recall on another post, that the problem is that the float can get stuck in the “full” position when the tanks are filled to the top. I will only fill to 90 percent as a rule. The fix was to remove the sender, push the float down, and put a plastic wire tie on the top to keep it from sticking in the future.

Just as an interesting side note, our fuel gauge on our 385 has always "worked," but shows the inverse of the fuel level. So a 15% reading means that the tank is 85% full. The previous owner said they tried many fixes - including flipping wires, etc - but gave up, so I have always just viewed it as what percentage has been used. And just happy that it kind of worked!
