Hi fellow enthusiasts! plotter is now fitted (top of the instrument pod, a 9" Raymarine AXIOM 9+) easy to see and works well. Fitting a Raymarine RAY73 VHF with AIS this week, I found somewhere that sells these at a discount if any interest (Paid £499). The seatalk ng cable was a bitch to get behind the headlining (the ends are fixed plugs) but managed it with brave use of a flat blade screwdriver. I think I spent a lot longer scratching my head and fretting than fitting. The chandlery just rolled their eyes and said 'its a boat mate'

We have now deep cleaned serendipity and awaiting Brighton Marina to repair their crane so her mast can be stepped. Has anyone here fitted a cockpit table/pedestal type into the cockpit sole? Any experience here would be helpful, before I get my cookie cutter out. Many thanks!

Doubt anyone has done such a thing. How would you do it? If the boat has no traveller the main sheet comes off a strong point in the centre of the cockpit floor. If it has a traveller, that occupies the centre of the cockpit. In all cases the tiller sweeps so far forward that you couldn’t install anything. It would have to be a removable affair but even then to be wide enough to be useful would mean not a lot of cockpit either side.

One of these with a table top that sits on the pole. so day to day it's just a disc on the cockpit sole. Surely someone's done this? I thought just in front of the traveler. table top is 75 x 50 cms

I think you’ll have trouble fitting that the the cockpit floor securely and keeping it leak proof. The aft cabin has a fibreglass lining which you’d have to cut away to get to the underneath of the cockpit sole. Do let us know if you manage this and how well it fits.

Having spent the last two nights sleeping (comfortably) in the aft berth, i was reminded how narrow it is- turning over on your sleep takes all the available headroom. Check the impact on your use of the berth that might result from a couple of inches of steel tube poking down into it.

I certainly can’t see how it would work, even if it’s just infront if the traveler…not just for the reasons mentioned before nut it would be so arward to get in or out of the hatch…
May I suggest something like a folding picnic table and it’s used when at anchor, un shackle the the main sheet and clip to the toe rail, and then erect the table putting the the leg against each side of the  ockpit, you may initially have to adjust the table top to fit with the legs in that position as the may not have splayed far enough out if it were used normally… I have seen this sort of thing done in a similar boat when I visited Islay

Thanks for your reply, after some physical testing - you're correct - it's just not viable. So its upgrade to a 320 (not this decade) or the picnic table idea - which is fantastic, so thats what we'll do. Thanks again everyone for your helpful suggestions & replies.

It’s nice to see that your looking to upgrade to a 320 but not this decade, I had a similar vision, and after over 18,000 miles in my 301, I would t get rid of it.. I will be interested to see if you have the balls to sell your 301.. I just could t bring my self to selling mine. 😂😂😂

Thats funny! You could be right, I'm gradually falling for her. She has a brand new engine which is a massive plus for me. I love the simplicity of the design and she looks gorgeous. Just need the riggers to put the sticky thing up and I can take her for a spin...

A 301 has just arrived as a long term visitor at our marina next to myself & another 315.  I have looked in the cockpit & it has a traveller. The owner had unclipped the mainsheet & fastened it to one side out of the way. This leaves a traveller with a car. Seems to me that a piece of ply , say 18 inches wide. The full width of the cockpit would go over the traveller (in the same line) & with 4 short( about 6 inches) folding or fixed legs to sit on the cockpit seats to make it stable. Being placed across the cockpit rather than along it would allow 4 people to sit to it . 2 aft & 2 in front. Just lift the tiller up out of the way. They would have to sit sideways but no big deal considering the size of the cockpit. The legs could be detachable to make it easy to stow. The ply could go under the bunk & the legs in a locker.

In my 31 I have a piece of ply that sits across the seats in front of the traveller over the liferaft. We do not eat main meals at it, tending to have buffet meals if in the cockpit. It fits in the aft cabin against the cabin side, held there by the bunk cushions. It does not need to be on legs & we do not need to sit with our legs under it.
Sometimes I lay on it across the cockpit to sleep under way as there is little space in a 31 cockpit to sleep unless one has a hatch chair.
