The manual of my 2005 H371 says:
"The toilet system is designed in such a way that its discharge is only possible into the waste tank. Discharge on shore is carried out through the screw-cap (marked Waste) on board." Silly me, I forgot to snap a picture when on board last weekend, but the installation definitely differs from what is stated in the manual. Discharge from the toilet goes to what looks to be a three- or four-way valve on the hull. From there it goes to the holding tank. The holding tank has a deck connection, and a manual pump that goes back to said three/four-way valve on the hull and into the great outdoors. The three/four-way valve on the hull connection has a handle, presumably to switch configuration to direct overboard discharge from the toilet. But, it is stuck and I don't dare hit it too hard with a hammer, for risk of things breaking off. Next haulout is scheduled for end of this year, so major works will need to wait until then. Does anybody recognize this setup, and have any tips on how to operate the hull valve? The boat was delivered by Hanse Yachts UK. I have the original invoice, and don't see any options or additions related to the holding tank setup there. We bought the boat from its second owner last year, so changes could have been made.

The system on our 350 is also equipped with a retrofitted diverter valve, but I am not sure it is quite the same as yours. The original pipe work was indeed straight to the holding tank where the outlet could either be left open for draining straight into the sea if appropriate, or closed to contain the waste until it could either be drained or pumped out through the deck fitting. The problem is the holding tank is quite small, only 30 litres, which can seriously limit your use between the pump or drain out particularly if you have several people on board. Consequently a diverter valve was fitted with pipe work that bypassed the tank enabling liquid waste to be pumped straight out to sea whilst the solid waste can be sent to the tank for later disposal. It sounds as though you may have an additional pump for emptying the tank but I can’t envisage why that is required.
Good luck.

Hi Martijn, our 371 has got the same configuration as yours. The handle is hard to handle. It takes a lot of muscles to open or close. But it is workable.

Thanks, I’ll give it a try next time I am on board. Fingers crossed…

Digging this subject up again, sorry. I finally remembered to snap a pic of the overboard valve configuration, see below.
In it's current position the valve is set for discharge from the toilet into the holding tank. I can't move the handle at all. I am assuming that the handle needs to be pushed "forward" 90° to change the setting to direct overboard? In a rare moment of lucidity this morning (back at home) I thought maybe the handle needs to be rotated 90° on the valve spindle? Does anybody know if these valves have a double 90° orifice drilled, or is it only one that is reversed when changing the setting? ![]() |
