There are tasks we perform before every trip. On our cruise this month I procrastinated on a key checklist item: tightening all the U-bolts. My 2021 H348 has 25 sets, which fasten the back stay, vang and all the sail sheets. The one that got away was the most heavy duty U-bolt, which fastens the jib tack to the bow. I lost the bolt overboard but non the U-fitting. The first marine parts store we visited a few stops later had a metric bolt, washer and nut set that will be a good, if only temporary, solution.

What we really need is light stainless steel wire run through the hole on the bolts, wrapped around the fitting, just enough to prevent the bolt from loosening. Meantime, be sure to tighten the fittings every trip!

I think when you talk about u bolts you are referring to shackles. Well worth carrying a deletion of spares.
Happy sailing and stick to your checklist which is a good idea.

All shackle pins must be secured or you are looking for trouble, monel wire is the best but plastic cable ties work well in many cases.
