Hi All,
Thank you for the many responses to my previous posts. I am just about to take delivery of my H460 in Sydney. Is anyone else bugged by the two steering wheels not lining up visually the same? Imagine buying a car that had the wheel at 50 degrees to the left. The Hanse brochures have them in synch, why not in real life? The dealers keep saying it is common for them not to line up. Is that true? Why can't the Jeffa wheel system be in visual synch? Surely it cannot be so hard to do this. Jeffa is a great system but why is this not important to them? The 460 is a big price down under. Am I being too fussy? Any other thoughts? Cheers J

You are not to fussy! This is a common issue with the whole line at Hanse and not just the Jefa system, but the Lewmar as well. It has nothing to do with Jefa. It is caused by the installation at Hanse. The good news is that the integrity of the install is fine, but there typically is no consideration made for wheel alignment as a this would require a bit more care and time at the factory. However, there is a fix which I did on my steering when I took delivery and can be done yourself if you've spent time messing with mechanical systems. it is nice having the wheels the same and makes locating dead ahead rudder more easily.

This bugged me when I first got my 418 but I soon got used to it.
However even more important, and my top tip assuming you haven’t used the boat yet is be really careful with any lines around the composite wheels. On my first outing I pulled on the main halliard from behind the wheel and very easily scored some nasty marks into the composite wheel! Keep the lines well away, they are quite soft and mark easily :(

Yes, In can attest to that Matt. I’ve gotten a few nasty scars on my wheels before I started taking precautions!

J,
Like Leon I played with the mechanical set up of the wheels, drive chains etc on our 575 to get the wheels to closely line up. A bit of messing around but worthwhile I think. Enjoy your460.

J,
Where are you going to use/keep the 460? We are on our way back to OZ. Currently in French Polynesia and will probably get to OZ in another 2-3 years.

Hi Wayne,
Lucky you. That sounds like a very special place to spend some time. She will be on Sydney Harbour, unless we get the travelling bug in the meantime. Safe passage. Cheers J

Hi Windcraft New Zealand supplied my 460 and they set up the wheels with both aligned. They did move slightly after use but again Windcraft sorted that out. Their commission of the new boat was good apart from some electrical aftermarket parts..
Windcraft Australia are the NZ agents as well so they should be fine. They have done 8 boats already I think. Ask them to set up the water and fuel tank gauges as the factory setup is very inaccurate. Also the anchor chain locker needs modified to avoid having to manually flake the chain. Basic design flaw. We have one ongoing issue with the Yanmar 80 hp losing a small amount of coolant maybe 10mm over 5 hours running. The service agent says it is normal for these motors and the pressure test is okay. We have over 30 days and 1000Nm on it with no major issues. Happy sailing.

Hi Keakaka
Thanks for the info. That is very reassuring. I look forward to them fixing the wheels. The gauges and the chain locker fixes are much appreciated too. Happy sailing to you too. Cheers J
