I bought my Hanse 400 (2009) just 4 weeks ago. Already my DST810 transducer has failed and I need to replace it. The last person who replaced it did a bit of a mickey-mouse job and cut the cable of the previous one and the new one and put a junction box in the bilge where the transducer is located, to save having to thread the cable through to the NMEA 2000 backbone, which is beneath the switchboard. When my new DST810 arrives, I'd like to do a proper job and thread it all the way through. Can anyone inform me what I need to remove/undo in order to thread the cable? I saw another posting that mentioned the "awkward wardrobe tilt job" to thread the transducer cable through. Presumably this is the port wardrobe in the bow cabin? If so, I see there are 5 screws inside the wardrobe onto the partition wall, and one screw at the bottom onto the hull. But it also appears to be bonded to the wall and cabin shelf. Errrm. In which direction should I make the wardrobe tilt - towards the bow or towards the starboard. I'm wondering if there's an easier way. Any ideas, anyone? Thanks so much in advance.

I just (today) had my DST810 replaced by AIRMAR (free). Call them up, give them the serial number of your unit, and they (probably) will replace it. Its a problem product and this is their quick fix. Having already replaced the DST800 with the DST810, I can tell you there is no need to cut anything. All you do is unscrew the connector to the buss and screw the new unit to the buss. Not sure why he did anything like that. Plenty of cable comes with it, so it can't be a bridging thing.
We can send you a replacement, If you send us your mailing address. we will get you one out. |

Brilliant that you got a new one for free. I got no such response - just a fob-off that it is out of warranty. I wrote back straight away saying that any reasonable person would surely expect a DST to last more than 4 years. Do you mind me asking how you got the connector through from the forecabin to the switch board?
