Anybody know whether 350s come fitted with a galvanic isolator ("zinc saver") between the earth of the shore power and the boat's earth?
I am still finding everything on my new 350 Selene. In amongst all the installation and operation flyers and brochures there was one for the Sterling battery charger which I of course found with no problem under the chart table, but also one for Sterling's galvanic isolator, which if fitted I have not yet located. Hence the question! David |

It depends on how old your boat is. The older ones didn't had that but now they fit an isolator in the aft part of the boat behind the connection for the cable.

Many thanks iemand - she is brand new, I took delivery from Hanse UK on 20th December, so she should have one fitted. I have not yet got as far as exploring the extreme aft end of the boat!

My Hanse 320 from 2009 has one installed. If you open one of the two hatches from the inside you will most probably find it close to the shore power intake.

Yes, when I found it (under the bunk in the stern cabin on my 350) I took a photo. Here it is (to the left of the mains isolating switch):-

We have an early model 350 which doesn't appear to have a galvanic isolator fitted. If it is fitted, then I have yet to find it and it is definitely not next to the mains isolator.
Purchasing a Sterling 30A Pro Save A is easy enough but is it simple to install? Do all metals on the boat need to be bonded together before they are connected to the isolator or have I got it hopelessly wrong and it is far simpler than that? At the moment it appears as if our boat is unprotected except for the zinc anodes that are obviously in place. These were in surprisingly good condition when we hauled the boat out in February to do the anti-fouling. Happy days!! Ignorance is bliss? |

Swanji,
As far as I remember the AC main swith in your yacht is in the aft space (just close to the access hatch from the third (aft port) cabin), close to the engine ventilation pipe. Normaly, if there's a galvanic isolator it should be fitted very close from this AC main switch. I have a picture of this AC breaker if you want
