Hi to all hanse owners....

After reading several posts here about quality issues with the hanse (saloon table failures, ceiling panels poorly afixed and falling, rudder delamination, leaky windows, etc , etc, ), and other posts lamenting the lack of service and follow up by Hanse and /  or the posters' dealers, would you buy Hanse again??  If not, what would you buy?

Is the 350 solid / safe enough for blue water cruising?  Is it large enough for a couple to live aboard for several months at a time?....

What are your thoughts?

We are thinking about buying a used 350.

thanks,

I have a 311 purchased in new 2003
I think I was lucky as Hanse were just getting rid of their " poorly finished" image & really making an effort- We  have cruised over 20,000 miles in 6.5 years with only 3 small problems- Broken mastfoot , Kinked water inlet hose to engine & I forget what the other problem was.
However, I get the impression that the sudden increase in output has resulted in dissatisfied owners-
I went with the wife to look at the London Boat show Hanses
Unfortunately there was no 35 Ft one on display
Furthermore we were so dissappointed with the 32 & 37 designs that we will now look elsewhere ( assuming we can break the tie with our current Hanse!!)
I can  see where owners have problems & the layouts are very poor
Sorry would not buy a current Hanse - BUT love the one we have- just want it a bit bigger & newer

Hi,

I have only recently (December) taken delivery of my 350, so cannot yet comment on all your queries from direct sailing experiences.

However, there is no doubt there was a problem with window leakage on the 350 due to the way they were fixed to the boat. Others on here have experienced that. Hanse altered the specifications in this and other respects in October last. My framed windows appear OK other than the usual possible issues with opening ports of any kind.

The table fixing on the 350 would appear adequate to me - mine is securely strapped directly to the mast support post.

The ceiling panels would also not appear to be an issue - mine are screwed to the deckhead.

Whether for ocean voyaging you want as many opening ports and hatches as the 350 is up to you? My 350 has 10 into the accomodation other than the main hatch - 3 opening hatches in the forecabin, a hatch and 4 opening windows in the saloon, a hatch in the heads, and a hatch and an opening window (into the cockpit) in the aft cabin. Rather a lot, but it will be lovely in hot weather! As to space, I am certainly proposing to live on my 350 for most of the summer.

On ocean crossings I know of two Atlantic crossings by 350s to the Caribbean - one by "Yacht Doris" http://yachtdoris.blogspot.com/, and one in the recent ARC. There are probably more.

Again it depends on priorities? If you want primarily to ocean voyage, maybe something heavy, long-keeled, and cutter-rigged like a Vancouver 36? (But note http://www.uhambosaniez-uhambo.blogspot.com/). On the other hand if you want something able to sail faster in light winds and are able to fix the odd but not life or safety threatening problem, but is still able to cross oceans a 350 could do well?

On the whole I am pretty happy so far with the construction of my 350. Better than other comparable mass produced boats. It seems to me there is a trade-off with mass produced boats. On the one hand there are limitations due to the production line basis. On the other there are lots of examples out there and the problems as they arise get reported on forums like this one, and as with the window issue on 350s eventually fixed in manufacture.

Hi
It is importent to have in mind that this forum i s a place where Hanse owner discusse smaller or bigger problems with their boats, the producer etc.
Therefore you will not get an objective wie of how satisfied the avarages Hanse owner is.
I have a 350 2009 modell, and are absolutly satisfied, of course there is some think to impove, but show me sailor that has bougth a new boat.
With no failure. I have bought new boats from other brands.
The owerall quality on Hanse is not lower than similare boats, as Bavaria, Jeanneau, Beneteau, Dufour etc, that are in same price level.
The new Hanse modells sails very well has inovative design( that now seems to be copied by Bavaria). And is very wellfor cruising and regatta.

I agree with Sesuv, this forum might give a bit wrong impression, as the purpose is to find areas to improve and there always are such, I believe, in any boat. Keeping in mind the price level and that Hanse is manufactured in volumes that customer would benefit in terms of value for money, I am satisfied. Honestly if I would not have to care so much of the cost, insteadt of Hanse, I propably would consider Arcona 340.

I have 320 delivered May 2008 and the main - perhaps irritating - problems were on Simrad electronics software, until those were fixed to work properly.  I highly value the seller efforts done after the boat is delivered, if the dealer would ignore me and let me down, that would be a very disappointing, I would let you know immediately. I believe many boats have some smaller things to fix and it is important how dealer handles those and factory approach customers who already purchased a boat.

My window was leaking also, dealer fixed in last fall and now I heard that factory has decided to change all of those windows to new one, to get long lasting solution, not temporally fixing. To me that is the right attitude.

We are happy with the boat, definitely yes, suits to us in Baltic Sea perfectly.

We have a 2008 350 which we bought new.  We had the salloon table failure and also leaky windows (both of which occurred in summer 2009 and both of which are in the process of being repaired during this off season).  Even with these (minor) issues, we are very happy with our boat and would definitely buy a Hanse again - our dealer has also been terrific to deal with.  As was noted by someone else, there are always a least a few problems with a new boat.  Our boat is fast and sails wonderfully.  We get compliments on the design everywhere we go (we also have a dark grey hull which is quite unusual on our lake).  We have two young kids and find that the 350 is spacious and perfect for the four of us - our next boat will definitely be the 400!

With this satisfied owners of the 350, I really look forward too get our new Hanse 350 #357.  The boat are foiled and wait for prepation and get in too the see. We have too take over  March 27th  in Griefswald and then sail the boat too Flensburg - about 180 NM. But the water in Greifswald are still frozen. I can't wait for the spring and sailingseason. I'm sure that we get a boat with no issues - there were in the boats before #357 Smile
