Hi there,

my Hanse 545 just arrived a week ago and it is currently being commissioned. Most looks ok, some minor glitches, some not so dramatic production issues - will report about this later.

One big question came up today:

My dealer who is coordinating the commissioning claims that there is no running rigging plan available for the boat, neither from Hanse nor from Selden.

Does anyone out there have a running rigging plan? It is the in mast furling version.

Is the information I received from my dealer correct? It sounds pretty strange, though. Jeanneau and Beneteau supply very detailed rigging plans with new boats. The yard even has to double check the correct length of the forestay since even this was not supplied.
Best,

Phuketsailor

Hey Phuketsailor,

our 545 is delyvired at Koper(Slovenia) on 2 june;
We have the normal mainsail and have the same problem,no riggingplans.
Afther 5 times calling Hanse the give us the messure by telefone for the forstay.
When the mast was one the backstay was to short,Hanse answer was, that we cut the forstay to short and have to pull the mast more backwards but this was onpossible, we dit it right on the messure the have giving us and the furling worked very easy.If you cut it wrong the angel is not right en de furling will not rol.
Not one sign of Selden.
We are still claining for a longer backstay(we put a shakle to longered and the find this a nice solution, we NOT)
Second problem:the reefsystem,NOBODY now how this works on the standard mainsail.afther 5 calls the send us an small by hand signed scheet of paper and we change everything by ourself. Now it is right.
You see, most off the problems you have to make pressure on Hanse our find solutions by ourself
We hope you will get true al your problems, when the boat is ready we can tell you is very nice and good sailing.Everybody will look afther you.
So keep smilling

Dear all, thank you for trying to help. I have been out of this blog for a few months, so sorry for not replying earlier.

MY 545 is now down in Phuket, it hass been rigged 2 times, because Hanse gave me wrong dimensions for the rigging. I had sails made by a performance sail specialist (nice double tafetta performance sails, optimized in roach and leech for the furling system, made in China at a good price in a factory run by an Australian sailor) which all needed to be re-cut due to the wrong measurements given. After a lot of haggling Hanse agreed to pay for the cost of re-cutting the sails. Thankfully, the sails still work well.

My experience with Hanse and their dealer in Thailand (Asia Marine) is quite devastating. For all warranty claims you need to fight, nothing is accepted based on logics, it seems both the dealer and Hanse are a major piece of work.

Issues I had so far:

- "Waves" in the hull due to taking the hull out of it's mould too early (still fighting with Hanse for repayment of equalization work done in Phuket)

- Deck out of position, resulting in problems when installing the mast because mast hole and mast base on the keel were out of line (Hanse rejects this claim as they say the position of the deck is in "production tolerance" - I told them I will sue them if they don't pay for the works needed to be ablöe to install the mast)

- Wrong rigging measurements given; resulted in sails with wrong measurements. Hanse accepted the claim after app. 3 months of fighting.

- Burnt windlass motor during first cruise - Hanse dealer is still haggling about replacement or refund of repair cost. I insisted to receive a new windlass motor as repair is never as good as new.

- One rope clutch faulty - was replaced by dealer quickly

- Widespread corrosion of "stainless steel" items (anchor chain (will be replaced by Hanse), railing feet, helmsmen seat feet, dinghy garage fittings etc. etc). Also brass engine water filter is crumbling away after 4 months in the water. My guess is that this is due to a badly earthed generator or batteries

- Fresh water in bilge after rain, probably due to blocked outlets for flush hatches

- Simrad IS 20 instruments not watertight. After one rain one of them was half full of water. Simrad makes things difficult. They want to take the instruments off the boat, send them to Australia for "examination" and then replace or repair. They say this can take 4 weeks, in which the entire Simnet system will not work.

- Espresso machine not working. After 3 coffees the thing just does not p
puncture the Nespresso capsules anymore.

- Various loose or not properly fitted parts, from drinks holders to seawater hose fittings etc.

My verdict upto now: a very nice boat to sail, solid basic construction, but due to neglect for details in the factory and on the dealer's side my first and last Hanse. I had a Jeanneau before and should have opted for the Jeanneau 53 - cheaper and - at leat here in Asia - much better service and built in features.

Best,

Phuketsailor

Well... I finaly got my boat... Since it has been months of chatting, researching for problems, best dealers etc... I decided to post my experience in a separate chat. I hope you find it useful.
Thank you very much to all that have helped shape my decision.
