Having ordered a 445, Hull #90, I thought it wise to join this forum. My boat will be at the London boat show in January and I hope to pick her up late January from Hamble and sail her back to Lowestoft assuming she survives the sea trials. From your own experiences, are there any major issues I should be looking out for?. Any advice you can offer will be greatly appreciated. Thanks, James

Hello and welcome to the forum James, I look forward to walking around your yacht in January!! Seriously though, there isn't one problem that can't be solved on this forum.

So how do you like your 445? I am thinking about ordering one this weekend and would appreciate your feedback.

Hi Matthew,
I love my Hanse 445. I had a problem with the intelligent mooring system but the Southampton dealer sent an engineer up here and fixed it very quickly. It's a very solid boat, well built to a high standard, a beauty to sail, and I'm glad I bought it. Downside? More expensive than the "Ikea" class of boats but well worth the difference. And, the squeaky forward cabin floor annoys me but I'll get them to fix that when I take her back to Southampton early next year. It draws admiring attention all the time and if I were to do it all over again, I would buy the same boat. Having said that, I suspect that I would have been happy with the Elan but this was better for me since it was designed for the self tacking jib and I sail single handed which makes that important to me. Hope this helps, James

Hello James,
That is all great information. Thank you! We are meeting with the dealer in the am. We have a 400 now and need more space because we have kids. May I ask what motor she came with? What type of cruising speed should we expect? Whats the fastest you have had it moving with the standard sail? Again, thank you so much! Matthew Veruca Salt

Hi Matthew,
I just love my 445 and can second all James was writing.
The only difference is we do not have a quicking floor. While sailing, the boat is dead quiet inside. You just hear the water passing by. Amazing and I hope it stays like that for ever.
Very good performance and easy to handle. In a F 4 - 5 we easily do 9 Knots and sometimes a bit more.
Downwind you need the genaker as the self taking jib is not powerfull at all.
There is not one specific problem with the 445. What I see in the forum is that everybody has different kind of minor problems.

Hi again Matthew,
First, let me add to the squeaky floor issue, it only squeaks when you walk on it, not at any other time. She really is superbly quiet at sea. Next, I went with the 55hp Penta because I also went with the intelligent mooring system and since most of the "Woof" you need is when moving around in close quarters, I figured the combination of the twin thrusters and a 55hp would be fine and it has worked out that way. In terms of speed, these days I sail for comfort and in fair winds I guess I average better than 8 kts and the quickest we have been was 11 kts. Not as fast as my old S.O 40 but she was a slim hulled boat and certainly not as comfortable to sail. The 445 is no racer BUT: She is a dream to sail, very stable, comfortable, easy going sort of boat. And solid as a rock. At some point, you will probably want to add a cruising chute for better downwind performance but frankly, I'm happy with the performance as is. Hope this helps, James

Hey guys,
Thank you very much for all the information. We ordered today and actually went with the teak decks as well. Our 400 did not have teak and I think it looks very nice. Hopefully not much maintenance. What are you seeing for motoring speeds? Could we expect high 8's? Thank you! Matthew

@salt
Congratulations with your new boat! Regarding the teak deck - use Top Gear Marineproducts. They have a 3 step treatment; 1. wash, 2. bleach, 3. seal. It works really well and is gentle on the teak. The best i have used in my 15 years with teakdecks. On my 470 i get apr. 8 knots motoring with 2400 rpm. Must be apr. the same with the 445 ?
