Hello,

my 445 #64 is just about being built. The plan is to take her over early in 2012, try it out on the baltic sea bevor sailing towards the mediterranean.

There seams to be some experience here with the boat. I understand that i would have to take special care about water connections f.e.

But how does she sail ?
Would it be a good idea to buy a small genoa in addition to the self tacking jib ?
Where there any issues with the underdeck furler or the furler line ?
Have you had a third reef made for the main sail ?
Did you change the bed in the forward cabin so that you cannot drop out while sailing :-) ?

Many thanks for sharing your experience.

Hello Klaus,
Congratulations on the new Yacht !!
If you like, we can even talk directly. I`ve seen my 445 this weekend in Greifswald.

Hello Klaus
If you are planning family/social sailing (rather than racing) you will be just fine with the standard sails. If you want an extra I would go for an assymetric spinny with snuffer for downwind. Its a lot of fun when the wind is right but takes up valuable locker space. We have logged +/- 8000 miles and rarely use our spinny. Yes, go for a third reef. The mainsail is huge on these fractional rigs and you will need it in a blow. We keep our third reefing line parked at the end of the boom and only rig it for longer trips or when stronger winds are forecast. The below-deck furler makes the boat look very pretty but causes too much friction on the furling line. you also have to be very careful to avoid damaging the pullpit or the bottom of the jib as they are frequently in contact while sailing. When we replace our jib we will get it cut a little higher and move the furling drum above deck. Enjoy your new boat

We picked up our Hanse 445 in August and have been sailing it since then. Plan to use the boat both for family trips and for racing. For family trips the jib is fine, but we will include a 3rd reef in the main as it is too big for family cruising when it passes 20 knots. In addition, we have ordered a 107% genoa, a smaller jib and a gennaker which I assume will be great fun.

Thanks everyone for the answers !

Ok, i will have a the 3rd reef made. Concerning the furler ... yes, it looks good, but i want to use the boat for just travelling about. My wish is to avoid all possible hazards caused by design :-).

Unfortunately it seems to be not that easy to change the forestay and furler. My first inquiry resulted in an offer of about 6.000,- EUR for the change: new forestay, change of the jib, new furler (was told that the underdeck version cannot just be used over deck, they would have to use a totally new one), change of the furler line and closing of the "hole" with a stainless steel plate). That's expensive .... i think i will try it out and decide in spring about that.

Genoa- and Gennaker-Accessories were ordered, so only the sails are yet to be bought.

Thanks !
Klaus

... looking foreward to the takeover in march.
