Hi,
The side windows of my 630 started to leak. I checked and found out that they were ready to fall away in the sea !!!
Hanse had promised to replace them with better ones, since the primer does not stick on the plexiglas.
I am still waiting. In the meantime we temporary fixed them with sikaflex. Edited by panos - 17 June 2011 at 20:08 |

That's too bad, Panos. I feel sorry for you.
I don't think Hanse supplied the suction cup for their customers to show how badly the windows are fitted in a YouTube clip but it certainly proved to be useful for other tasks than lifting the inspection hatches in the floorboards. It somehow leaves a bad taste in your mouth though. Johan |

Is ok!
The problem is in the primer. It took about 2 hours to remove the window and carefully clean both the hull hole and the window. Then we applyed sikaflex to the hull and pressed the window on. The solution is only temporary because without a primer the sikaflex will only last one year.
Hanse promised to replace them but I dont know which technology they selected.
The perfect solution would be a black-anodized inox frame and bolts. Edited by panos - 16 May 2011 at 12:32 |

Hi Panos,
You will glad to hear that Hanse have what has proven to be a very good solution to the primer defect. We have replaced well over 100 windows and they have all stayed replaced using the correct system.
It is interesting to note that there were a lot of boat builders sold the same window system as Hanse and although Hanse have quite rightly completely changed the window fixing system back to the more tried and tested method there are still a lot of builders who continue to use the defective system but with a UV protective tape on the outide to protect the primer.
I think Hanse deserve some credit for embracing the problem system by completely changing it as soon as they realised.
I hope your dealer and/or Hanse change them for you quickly
Kind regards
Phil

@Yeoman,
could you explain the system Hanse uses now? On my boat Hanse used last year the UV-Tape. I does not look nice. So is Hanse now fixing the windows without the UV shielding tape? What system and what producer is it now? 2. I hope your probem will be solved soon, panos. Edited by Peter-Blake - 16 May 2011 at 14:47 |

Hi Peter,
The fix does require the use of the UV tape as there does not appear to be a suitable primer on the market that can cope without it.
Kind regards
Phil

Hi,
Leaking windows one year later... A few days ago I received a sample of the new hull windows that is going to replace the unstable existing ones. The windows arrived to the dealer last December but either because they were not followed by detailed instructions and sealing materials or because of bad weather not permitting the replacement they have not been installed yet. From the photo it is obvious that serious installation work is needed so this job has been again postponed to the end of the season. In between another two old style windows had to be removed and refitted because they were loose and leaking. |

Panos
I cannot find the post -but elsewhere on the forum a member shows the proposed repair with bolts through the window frames. that in itself should be good
However,--There are 2 skins to the hull with blocks between
I would not accept this method if the blocks were not continuous because the section of skin between the blocks could flex
From other comments you have made on this forum you seem to understand engineering, so would probably spot this straight away. But not all owners would
If it was me I would want to be there when these windows are fitted

@samuel,
You are right, the new system has an aluminum frame that is bolted on the hull. Of course it has to be bolted only to the outer skin. Besides the window they send a plastic (cheap looking trim to cover the space between the outer and inner skin. I will post pictures as soon as I take them. |

Hi,
At last the hull windows have been replaced by Hanse and the dealer under the warranty. I have to admit that the technician and his team did an excellent job following the factory written instructions to the last comma. Unfortunatelly the instructions did not include cleaning the boat after the work is over so we have a cleaning weekend in front of us. ![]() The superstructure windows will be replaced at a later date since we could not find a free week until now. |
