I am very inclined towards swapping my trusty and much-loved 400 for a 445 and would love to hear from new owners about their first (and later!) impressions and any problems.
e.g. What is good? What is less good? Any major build problems? Leaks? How does she feel on the helm? etc. etc. In particular, am keen to hear from anyone who has got the shallow draft lead/iron composite keel? Or the in-mast furling? Many thanks for whatever info you can provide! Jof Edited by JofB - 18 March 2011 at 18:04 |

Hi Jof,
I will get my 445#23 end of this month and will be glad to share experiences. I had the occasion to sail one before I ordered it -- and that was a very positive experience -- she is very handy and fast. Alain |

The 445 is an absolutely fantastic boat! I've just started chartering her out, http://silverfin-charters.com/spain/balearic-islands/port-de-soller/disco-biscuit-hanse-445-183347 , having sailed the thing from the Hamble to Gibraltar last April. Really effortless sailing, a few bumpy spots during the trip and sailing through fishing areas, in fog, at night and without radar is exciting to say the least! The 445 is an amazing boat, the styling is stunning And yes it really is called Disco Biscuit

After sailing the 445 in the Aegean sea and along the Turkish coast for about 8 month since I have the boat: sailing performance and handling are super. I also like the design of it -- in fact everything except the stupid toilet problem we have (as described under '445 Problems')
Best regards Alain

We have now
been sailing our 445 during one year. We like our
boat a lot. Equipment: shallow keel, large engine, standard sail, electrical
winches, thruster, electrical windlass Pros:a lots
of space, handles much wind well, looks, easy to handle for two despite the
size, powerful engine, showers, owners
cabin. Cons: minor
problems discovered when delivered such as gel coat damages, no heat water I kitchenette,
spray hood not fitted, leaking shower heads. All fixed except from the
sprayhood. A bit slow with the jib in light wind, heavy on the aft with the shallow keel. |

Stolstol,
You wrote that your boat is low on aft. The picture shows that the bow is much higher than the stern. I have the same problem on my new 445. The bow is 6" higher than the stern. I am not sure if it is caused by the engine upgrade to a 75HP or if is a design problem. Besides adding lead in the storage compartment below the anchor to balance the water line, anyone has a solution? Andre |

Hi Tempo,
Loading the bow will straighten the waterline but is not recommended since it will increase the moment of inertia and the boat will have a higher resistance to pitch and will not ride the waves! It is better to trim the keels torpedo if possible or to add weight near the mast base or to move some heavy items from the aft locker closer to the keel base (heavy tools or engine spares for example). PS: Possibly with the anchor up the boat might float better. |

Hi Tempo and Panos
If I fill up the water tank with all 450 liters and with the anchor up the boat becomes more balanced. But it is not enough. I have the shallow keel which does not have any torpedo shape. All extra weight is located at the back of the keel. I also have the uppgraded motor but I dont think it can make a big difference. I have talked an other 445 owner who also complained about the lower stern. Hanse balanced his boat by adding lead in the storage compartment below the anchor box. It is not the best solution as you Panos described. In my case I plan to add an extra water tank in a empty locker in front of the keel. You can newer have to much water Anyway, during sail the boat peforms very good and seem to stretch out and balance quit well! |
