Does anyone know where the pre-wired cockpit speaker leads are on the 415?

I have fitted a Fusion stereo below the switch panel in the saloon and the pre-wired connectors matched up exactly on the Fusion unit. I've also fitted the saloon speakers using the pre-installed wires and pre-prepared holes in the furniture. The port hand speaker goes below the forward 'chart table' seat (with the wire found in the back corner under the seat) and the starboard speaker goes under the seat immediately in front of the sink (with the wire in the corner under the seat in front of the fridge). Six inch Fusion speakers are an exact fit for the pre-routed holes but I imagine any 6" speaker will be similar.

Unfortunately I now can't find the pre-installed wires for the cockpit speakers. I can only think they are in the panels immediately in front of the wheels but there appears to be no way into this panel except by cutting a large hole. Needless to say I am reluctant to do this until I know for certain that I'm going to find the wires there!

Help please.

I've made some progress with this one.

I asked IMG and they mailed the factory for advice. Apparently pre-installed wires are only normally provided if you specify the entertainment package. We didn't, so it is a bit of a mystery why we have the wiring pre-installed (but very welcome as it simplifies the installation of the stereo).

When pressed, the factory replied with a couple of photos that I attach below.

The bad news is that when I cut the hole for the starboard-side speaker I could not find the wires (and still haven't!).

The good news is that the wires were as expected for the port speaker which immediately worked on connecting up.

I will try again over the weekend to locate the starboard wires as they must terminate somewhere!

Hi,

The phone company technicians have two very useful devices that can help you solving the cable puzzle.

One is a signal generator. You connect it to the known terminal of the mystery cable. The other is a radio receiver tuned to the signal frequency. You move it around and by monitoring the signal strength you trace the cable.
Probably you can find and borough this pair.

Good luck!

Thanks Panos - I understand.  That's a good idea that I might have to try - I've just about run out of conventional 'look and feel' ideas!

Success. SmileTongue

I took a small CCTV camera with me this morning. After removing the starboard speaker I poked the camera in the hole and had a good look around (it had a built in LED light). I had almost given up, though, when I managed to aim the camera down between the side of the enclosure and the underside of the cockpit floor and there was a small bundle of speaker cable. It then needed a small hook on a foot long stick and a lot of patience to retrieve it. Without the camera (or maybe a signal generator as suggested above!) I would never have found the cable.

After attaching the connectors to the speaker I am delighted to report that we finally have 'stereo' in the cockpit.

For anyone interested, the starboard speaker cable is actually to be found as shown in the photo, under the cockpit floor (not quite as indicated by the factory).

Hi Roger,

I was wondering if you had to run your own speaker cables how you'd get them to this area? Same for the port side.

I've run speaker cables from the main panel back to the area behind the rear berths to the empty stern area but can't work out how they get from there into this part of the locker?

Regards,
Simon

Hi Simon

The short answer is "I don't know"! I remember, when I was looking for my speaker cables, wondering where they could be routed.

You can route them fairly easily into the space behind the stern cabins but it will be difficult to get them from there to the locker side where the speakers are mounted as access to the space is tight

Maybe the cables are laid in before the deck is installed?

Are you sure yours aren't pre-installed and just difficult to find, like mine were?
