Hello members, we have recently taken possession of our 470 and we cannot, no matter how or what we have tried, open the emergency tiller hatch.  We have been advised by 'someone who knew someone' that Hanse sealed these tiller hatches with silicone because they were a source of leakage into the aft cabin roof linings.  We know another 470 owner who has the same problem as ours.  We would appreciate any help, tips, advice or whatever to try and get this hatch open, for obvious reasons.  Many thanks.

It was on our boat that the leak was discovered and indeed the silicone was the answer. We have only opened the hatch once since and that was some time ago and then it was siliconed again.
 
All i can suggest is cutting the silicone, clean it out and even adding a little WD40 or something once you've cleaned out the silicone.
 
I must admit when they, Hanse UK, suggested the silicone i couldn't see an issue with it as it made sense, stopping the leak but, theoretically, being easy to remove in emergency as the winch handle provides great leverage. So I'll be very interested in hearing the solution/cause.

Big%20smile Problem now solved, some good old nail polish remover applied around the hatch has loosened the sikaflex enough to open the hatch.  All sealer removed and hatch replaced and sealed with petroleum jelly!!

Just for infos sake we are back on board now and checked the hatch cover. Ours opened fine with just a little pressure on the winch handle to "crack" the seal. So if you want to go ahead and use silicone it appears to be fine.
 
Also when i opened it up it reminded me. Be sure to fill the three holes in beside the rudder stock with silicone so that if the seal around the hatch fails at least you still don't get water in side, or at least only a little.

My rear cabins also get water.... Never been able to find out from where it comes the water....I am going to check this..and will put some silicone,...

We had the same problem (water in aft cabins) and changed the o-ring of the hatch. Since then no more water in the aft cabins.
