hi all,

after all the comparison and lots of negotiating we finally decided on a new Hanse 345.
She is ready at the factory and should be shipped to San Francisco soon...Tongue

I think she is nicely equipped:
- 2 cabin version
- upgraded FCL sails
- dyneema halyards
- upgraded engine (fixed prop)
- navigation pkg with Zeus-2
- cruising pkg
- entertainment pkg
- comfort pkg
- folding transom
- lazy bag
- dodger
- wheel and table covers
- we liked the brochure colors so ordered those (Italian Oak furniture, Chocolate Florence upholstery, Noce Nerao floorboards)

She should be here towards the end of January. Very exciting. First time we are buying a new boat.

Just curious, but what are the first couple of things people add to this boat? Other than comfortable life jackets and a lifesling?

Besides the amount of small stuff you will have to buy anyway, i would definatly add a folding prop.
It does not make sense to me to buy a pretty fast sailing boat, and than always sailing with a handbrake.
In addition i would buy it after delivery, than you can use the original prop as a spare one.
BTW San Francisko is one of the most interesting sailing spots to me.

Bigcat,

Congratulation on ordering your new 345. You didn't mention in your post what you intend doing with your 345 - will you mainly cruise (local or coastal), mainly day sail with family & friends, mainly club race, mainly single hand or two up etc? You may get more focused and useful answers if the forum knows a bit more about your intended use.

I would agree with Peter that a folding propeller is a worthwhile investment regardless of your intended use of the boat. If you intend using the boat overnight very often I would look at adding some mattress bed toppers because the standard issue mattress's are fairly uncomfortable and the factory optional mattress's are over the top price wise.

Bigcat,
Congratulatons to a new Hanse owner.
I agree with the other forummembers about the folding prop and if I get not a hughe discount on the canvas items like sprayhood, lazyjack, bimini etc I will never order then againe by the factory( expensive for poor quality)and order then by a local canvas workshop.
Great fun with your new boat.

hi all,

thanks for the replies & congrats! We are very excited and can't wait to try her out. By the way, so is our dealer as this will be the first 345 on San Francisco Bay! Perhaps the dealer is even more excited than we are Smile
I forgot to mention that because of what I read here on the forums, we indeed did _not_ order the factory canvas but we're having it all made locally after-market.
We will put a folding prop on our wish-list.

As for intended use, initially it will be mostly day trips on the weekend, spending one or two nights aboard in the marina. We do plan to sail away for long weekends towards other bay area destinations.
My wife has to become comfortable with coastal sailing before we do any trips along the coast. We also have a 5 yo son.

One more vote for the folding prop. I sailed the first summer with my 345 having the fixed one and changed it last spring to a Flex-O-Fold. It really made a big change. The boat is a lot faster, specially in low winds.
I also added a North G2 gennager with a snuffer for our light summer winds.

Hi bigcat
Our new 345 arrived in may and we love it. Exactly the same colour scheme as yours. A few things we have done or learnt which might be worth thinking about.
- memory foam under the mattress
- decent quality fitted sheets and duvet
- tv on bulkhead
- furlstrom assymetric
- a 4 man valise life raft fits into stbd cockpit locker
- make some removeable boards for port locker to use as a shelf. Then remove when dropping fenders etc
- 'speedseal' water pump plate as impeller is hard to access
- bespoke tent over boom for cockpit (we are in England).

There's more but this is probably enough to be going on with.
Enjoy!

Hi Bigcat, congrats, we have our 345 since summer 2013 and we love it.
Two things you might consider.
1) 2nd pair of winches for a gennaker,  the self tacker is great upwind for windspeeds > 7 knots but disappointing for TWA > 80 deg and light winds.
2) extra rails for a 105% genoa ( can be retrofitted later )
I don't know how rough SF bay is, but a additional handle in front of the wheels would be good to get behind the wheel.

We have three things added:  , simrad VHF with remote handheld, electric winches and of course a diesel heater.
