Welcome. I have sailed my new 415 since June. I enjoy this boat so much - really fun, am sure you'll enjoy your 505!
2 things to comment. I kept a log of all these same questions and more for the first few months, asking the forum sometimes (great and quick answers btw) but most often just learning and connecting the dots experience by experience. This past weekend I visited Annapolis and went from my boat to Selden, then to Spinlock, then back to Selen - learned a ton... Attend a large boat show armed with questions - the industry loves to chat. I have reefed a fair bit and I do find in 25 plus that it is hard to slab it nice but although it looks scrunched and stressful on the fabric it seems ok. I have thick performance ply and only one time it binded into the grommet which I eased back and retightened. All works pretty well actually. Jon

Jon, thanks for insights.  As you might imagine, I have had numerous questions (many answered by the dealer), especially since this is my first boat since 1979 (a Pearson '21).  This reefing issue has been a bear.  It is only after reading the sail-maker instructions that I realized that the FCL main does not match the design guidelines (missing gromets).

Check out these quality issues with Hanse Yachts. I purchased a Hanse 505 in 2014 and there have been a number of items that have caused concern. Photo's attached. Hanse have used the wrong product on the hull to deck joint and it has gone soft , shrunk and mouldy. Some yachts have had dealers fix the problem but Hanse are not carrying out the replacement as a must do warranty problem. If you say nothing then nothing happens even though they know of the production mistake.
Bathroom fittings are a few months old and are completely stuffed.

B & G have been onboard twice and replaced the auto pilot computer and Jefa steering also has some problems.

Andy:

My dealer did remove and replace all of the caulk.  This was warranty work that was reimbursed, I assume, by Hanse.  Why Hanse did not simply issue a "recall" I will never understand; it is not like they can keep it a secret.   Interestingly, I am also experiencing the same problem with the fittings, although not so bad yet.  I plan to bring this to the attention of the dealer.

If I were you I would insist that the caulk be replaced.  It is a big job, and done properly, takes several days.
Best of luck.

Dave

I had the mildew Problem on the hull/deck Joints. My dealer reassured me, that the main Joint was properly done and removed  the faulty seal last winter.
Hanse has not yet addmitted that they had used for a certain time a inferior product or real Sika past its shelf life.
In short: Insist on removing the crappy seals and make sure that they replace it with fresh Sika.

When my 575 arrived in Australia last August the first thing I noticed was that the caulking was sticky and already showing signs of mold. The caulking way replaced by the dealer prior to hand over. This has been an ongoing problem for Hanse for some time. It must be costing some one a lot of money.

The problem with the fixtures (inside) has been happening for years, although for a 2014 boat (1 season) it does seem excessive even for Hanse. The problem is they use very cheap fixture, they're plastic in most places with a very cheap shiny outer layer. In the last 2 years I've replaced all the hot/cold faucets in the boat with proper, rugged marine grade products.

Hi All,

I am afraid the sealant problem has been very time consuming for us (Inspiration Marine) but the sealant manufacturer has accepted their fault and are supporting us in putting the issue right.

We have now covered a lot of the affected boats so almost there.

If you have the problem (some 2014 models) your dealer should be contacted to rectify it.

I am keen to point out that this does not appear to be anything that Hanse could have forseen and the sealant manufacturer has accepted full responsibility.

Kind regards
