Hello all

I am a new owner of a Hanse 324 and unfamiliar with the self-tacking jib. The only experience I have with this type of fore-sail is from the 11 meters OD. Here we have to - actively - trim the jib to get the most speed.

As you may know, the 342 has a toerail without any holes in is. Therefore it is very difficult to fix any blocks in case you need it.
My question is as follows: When I need to trim the jib by using a barber-haul, at what distance (say, from the tip of the bow) do I need to place the hole for the block?

I would very much apprechiate any experience from you active Hanse sailors.

Stay sailing
Geir

Hello Geir,

We never use a barber-haule. Just make sure that the sheet of the jib is positioned high enough. For us that means, we need to use the second hole from above. We experienced that trimming the standard jib up wind is more important than for other courses. Down wind the jib is less efective. For that we use a gennaker.

Happy sailing,

Michael
