Hi, new to this forum and to Hanse ownership. Was wondering if a fellow 430e owner could describe what the seal on the back lazarette looks like (or take a photo)? We've just bought a Hanse 430e and with the first winter rain in Perth, the back lazarette is filling up with water. We suspect the culprit is the existing seal, which is flat and looks like its been poorly glued on - so probably not by the factory - plus it has no compression left and is disintegrating. I'm wondering if the seal should be the same or similar to the d-shaped seal on the port and starboard seat lockers which is in perfect condition and sits snuggly in the groove keeping those lockers nice and dry. Many thanks for your help, Jenny.

Hello Jenny.
On mine, the lazarette cover has a simple flat seal that is poorly glued on.  What I have found is that the drains at the back often get clogged and then water goes into the lazarette.  I check the bottom of the lazarette often and usually have to sponge up some water.  In other words, I have not completely stopped water from getting in there.

Hi Dogscout, many thanks for your reply. That’s a bummer and sounds like a design flaw. We are going to have a go at replacing the lazarette seals with the same p-section profile as the seals in the seat locker. Wish us luck. In the meantime and like you, I’ll be relying on my trusty sponge!
Checked the drain holes last night and they are free of debris so next step is to to check the drainage hoses that connect to the sea cock as every time we switch on the lazarette bilge pump water gushes out the hatch holes - go figure!

Did you say Lazarette Bilge Pump? That's new to me. I do not have a separate bilge pump in the lazarette. Never seen that before. Perhaps a previous owner install.

I have contemplated replacing the drain lines with larger diameter ones but it’s pretty low on my priority list.

There is no need to belabor this thread to much but one thing that I did to aid the draining was to replace the crap plastic Y fitting at the drain line with a much stouter SST fitting.  The plastic had a very small ID and mine had cracked.  I found a SST one on amazon with same OD and larger ID.  The wall thickness on the plastic one had to be at least 1/4"

Hi Andy&Jen430e.
We recently bought a 430e in QLD (but we are from WA also).
I noticed some water ingress to the rear lazzarette - which I call the boot ha ha.
The deck drain setup around the hatch is rubbish, doesn't seem to handle a large amount of water.
Also;
I found that the deck shower nozzle had been cutting in and out as the trigger was bumped now and again.
Also I had water jerry cans in there that had a slight leak.

I have the same problem i get water when it rains into the sump under the engine and around the fuel tank under the stbd bed and it looks like its coming from lazerette but i have a water tank in there too. Does anyone know if the lazerette is connected to the engine bay and or under the stbd bunk around fuel tank?

On my 430, water could definitely migrate from the Lazarette into the engine bay and surrounding areas. The bulkhead that separates the Lazarette from the boat has openings cut in for the hoses and wiring to pass through. If there are any openings below the water level it will enter other areas of the boat.
