350 Traveler

   I am interested in purchasing a 350, but there isn't one nearby so I am going off the pictures and data on the limited Hanse website. What's the deal with the cabin-mounted traveler? Is it really a traveler or just the mainsheet running through blocks spread apart? I want a cockpit table, but I really need a traveler that works in order to flatten out the boat.

	Pete, the standard option on the roof isn't a traveler as you want it. However a cockpit traveler is an option. In the NL it's about 1600 Euros to have it installed, as we will on ours. Combined with extra winches, a 1400 mm wheel and all equipment in the aft cockpit, the 350 will be perfect for shorthanded sailing..... I hope..... Rob

	When I ordered my 342 in 2005, a cockpit mainsheet traveller was a must-have option. I don't regret making that choice and I cannot see how I could sail without it. Now, I paid approximately 1 100 Euro for it but I have later discovered that the parts involved, the track and blocks etc. are the same, apart from the track being twice as long. I don't see a good reason for the extra cost of having it fitted in the cockpit. Johan

	that is for everything that is called option ... you have to pay for it. for exemple whe have the stiping in collor grey (is is now the standard but back then is was standard blue and we had to pay 500 euro s more , this while there is no extra work to it ........ greetings marcel Edited by alettaenmarcel - 04 February 2008 at 12:10

	Thanks for the information about the traveler. Other than that - and those pesky option prices - how would you rate the Hanse 350 in terms of value for money? I am trying to decide between the Beneteau 37 and the Hanse 350 which are about the same price in Canada. It seems like there's more quality in the Hanse and better sailing characteristics, but of course the Beneteau comes with 3 extra feet...

	Pete, The Beneteau and the Hanse feel very different to sail. Do you have an opportunity to take each for a sail? - the 350 is pretty new but a 341 or 370 will be fairly similar. It's like comparing a mini van or family car to a performance vehicle. Steve

	Hi Bruno Rather than hi-jack the Hanse in Dubai thread, i thought I would revive this old thread in the Hanse 350 section. The best set up I have seen for a removable traveller was one done by a fellow Hanse owner. I think he owns a H315 and he made a removable cockpit traveller that can also be mounted as a coachroof traveller at the same time. He made the fittings in a way that corresponded to both areas at the same time to have the best of all worlds!!

I want the fittings to be the smallest possible in order to avoid hitting them with feet & legs when not in use. That's why I'm thinking about (copying) the former ETAP system (see pic). It leaves only 2 rounded small fiiting. The traveler kit is set with only 2 pins. So very easy to remove. As the loads and cockpit width are great on H 355 I should add a 3rd (center point) with a turnbuckle on a cockpitfloor pad eye (the one I added earlier this year). This way the load will be spread on 3 points. This way I could have a 1,8 m (6 ft) long removable traveller. For this I will have to buy a 70 X 70 X 3 mm aluminium profile (don't know the word in english, sorry) and have it laser cuted. I will also need a high beam track. Harken track is great because it's not too high (compare to Selden's). So the whole kit will protude about 9 cm above benches + end fittings & traveller itself. Alternatively I'm thinking about a high beam track laid directly on benches (but not screwed), a single aluminium profile under the center part and fittings like solution nr1. But I don't know if high beam track will stand the load on the two short (30 cm) unsupported ends. So I still thinking and thinking about it.
