Dear Owners
Following suggestions from other Hanse owners, I have started a new topic in the 540 subforum that is also interesting for 630 owners. To avoid duplicity and dispersion of ideas, please refer to the 540 subforum to the topic Shaft/Rudder vibration. The problems I'm talking about refer to: - Excessive engine noise and vibration. - Shaft vibration, early wear of cutlass bearing. - Rudder vibration. - Failure of the cv joint after 200 to 500 hours of use. - Poor cruising speed (7,8 knots the 531,540,) and 8.5 in the 630. - Hard steering under engine with a vicious pull to port side. - Water ingress through the pack gland. Waiting your feedback in the 540 subforum ZENCAP |

Hi,
Although I have some questions and possibly improvement suggestions for the drive shaft and propeller, I can not verify your complaints (only talking about the 630, about the 540 I have no experience).
About the Gori:
![]() ![]() OVERDRIVE MODE IS THE SAME AS REVERSE MODE![]() ![]() .What we don't like :
The shaft is very difficult to inspect and access.
Because of the hydraulic gearbox, the shaft needs a shaft locking mechanism.
I would select a Gori propeller without overdrive, if available. Since I am usually sailing, I can live with some increased fuel consumption during my limited motoring. The overdrive is not a plus. It is just a BIG hussle. Edited by panos - 04 September 2009 at 15:24 |

Dear Panos
Thanks for your post. I'm replying in the 540 subforum to avoid duplicity. I agree with you in your observations about the Gory. the overdrive issue is only a good paper idea but makes more problems than benefits overall. good sailing ZENCAP What we don't like : The shaft is very difficult to inspect and access. Hi,
i run a 630, we have over 500 engine hrs and have sailed about 15000miles. since the very begginging we have had engine vibrations at tick-over revs and expecially when overdrive is engaged there is bad vibrations at low revs. I would say the 3-bladed Gori prop is good and have never experienced any difficulties in manovering in harbours. It is hard to steer when steaming under engine in overdrive at cruising revs, but then that is not so suprising because of the overdrive, out of overdrive is no problem. panos, what revs are you cruising at to get 9.1 kts out of overdrive?! If you don't like the Gori then switch to a maxprop! There are many hydraulic gearbox without a locking mechanism out there, just means stopping engine in gear. Normally the gori prop should not go into overdrive just by putting the gearbox in reverse, usually the boat actually has to be moving astern to pass water over the prop to splay it open then its overdrive. (that is my experience with the Gori anyway!) cheers, david. |

Hi all,
I just had my boat out of the water for the yearly antifouling work and took the opportunity to change the Gori for a MAXPROP propeller. We also changed the shaft rubber bearing. The results are amazing: no more vibration, no more headache with stopping the shaft with the engine off: nearly no turbulence (much less) at the rudder, you almost can leave the rudder alone under engine for a while; much smoother shifting from forward to reverse; no more trouble with the guessing if you are in normal or overdrive?? At a pitch of 17° we make 8,5 Kn at 2300 rpm with 10,5 l consumption or 7,8 Kn at 1900 rpm and 8,5 l!!!
In short, so far so good, really satisfied with the change.
SELLING A USED GORI IN GOOD SHAPE VERY CHEAP, INQUIERIES RIGHT HERE!!!!!

Hi Thomas,
Which engine do you have? What speed you make at 3000RPM? |

Hi Panos,
I fogot to explain: with the Maxprop I get to a maximum of 2.700 rpm, when going higher the prop starts to cavitate and speed goes down substantially. At 2.700 we run aprox. 9.3 knots. Edited by TAIMA - 06 December 2009 at 01:32 |

Thanks,
I suspected that. My engine is 110 hp Yanmar and most probably wouldn't have the power to drive this prop. With my (weak) engine prop selection is more critical. |

Hi
before leaving on our holiday sail we increased the angle of the maxprop to 18° .We made about 40 engine hours the last 30 days and I must say, I am quite happy with the results. The vibration is gone, the rpm-speed-consumption ratio is favorable. I think Hanse can save lots of headaches if they change the Goris for Maxprops.
