Hi,
I took some pictures of the upwind barber hauler. The arrangement gives one more trimming line and a few degrees upwind can be achieved. Edited by panos - 31 May 2011 at 19:31 |

Hi,
I stumbled on this topic, because I was thinking of using the same system you use, but more in putting the jib more outward, whilst sailing down wind, where the angle of the self tacking system is not ideal. By correcting the angle of the sheet vs jib more outward, it could improve performance. What is your experience? Best Regards, Marc |

On my boat I installed two additional stoppers on the selftacking track, one on each side. This allows to reduce the tacking angle (the same panos achieves with his system) and while sailing downwind on light air you avoid the sail from going from one side to the other without control, because you lock the sail in on one side.
For sailing halfwind with an open jib just use a "shortsheet" with a block on an eyepad and ease the sheet.
Regards

Marc,
I've done what you suggest with the spinnaker guy. I have blocks placed on the toe rail pretty much where the shrouds are. These are normally used for the spinnaker guy while racing downwind. However, they come in hand for cruising where I attach the line to the self tacker to better off wind sail trim as you suggest....

What a good idea. I'm going to try it on our Hanse 320!
