Spray Hood frame location

   Like many of you I find the spray hood frame is too close to the winches to use a handle properly and would like to know if anybody has moved the fixing point further away from the winches (probably further outboard). I appreciate that this will require the sprayhood and frame to be re-made but with my sprayhood being on it's last legs I will have to replace it soon anyway.

	Even a short winch handle results in skinned knuckles.

	Neil - although its an oblique answer to your question have you looked at an EWincher? We got one as part of the preparatory 'geriatrification' of our boat but its solved a lot of issues including grazed knuckles on the frame. Now the missus reckons its more use than me on the boat as she uses it to quickly grind in long spinny sheets and every other bit of string without the expense or bother of fitting electric winches. One charge easily lasts a couple of days of fairly intense use. Expensive yes but it would avoid the expense and faff of redesigning your frame. 	Neil, I had a similar problem with my 370, but only on the port side where the winch handle fouled the spray hood frame. What I noticed in my case was that whoever had fitted the frame had done so with the port side mount being approximately 50mm forward when compared to the one on the other side. I remounted the port side mount back to match the starboard one. Doing this enabled me to use a short winch handle without fouling the frame. But as Iain says, an EWincher or as I have a Winchrite on board is an extremely useful crew member that has the power of someone that has excessive gym attendance but doesn’t eat and drink you out of the boat or talk nonsense. Well worth considering especially if you ever single hand or have health issues. I find it brilliant for furling the miles of the endless line on the asymmetric and code 0 as it makes watching the sail and furling it extremely easy. Hope this is useful Simon

	Neil, I also meant to say that changing the mounting position didn’t have any noticeable impact on the spray hood canvas and it fitted just as snugly as it had before moving the mounting. Simon

	I use on the left side a short handle and on the right side I placed a electric winch. Problem solved

	Send me an email and I’ll send you a photo of our recently replaced spray hood/dodger on our boat, the original attachment point for the frame that is too close to the winch.
