Yes, we use a 105 with the optional tracks on the coach roof. Transforms performance.
We still have the self tracker for short handed over night passages, otherwise we keacpve the 105 on all the time. Mark |

I am also planning to order a max jib / genoa 3 to my new 385, using it for clubregattas, light winds etc. My elvsrom FCL 95% jib have vertikal battens that make it hard to change jib and pack.
Does enybody have some experience and recommendations regarding fabric/fibers, sailloft, price/performance and track / wagon ? What about soft furlable battens ? And What is max area in sqm possible for a jib on 385 ? |

Do you furl the 105 Genoa or does it have vertical battens ? what do you recommend ? How many sqm is Your DEN6 ? ( vs the s.t.jib 26 sqm ) I see that the DEN4, (EPEX, Tecnora , Double Tafetta) have better Performance, Durability Price, than DEN6. Are there any other disadvantage With the DEN4 ? vs DEN6 ? Regarding adjustable cars, which brand do you recommend ? is installation simple, or is it neccesery to make new hole in the gelcoat ? Edited by Cumulus - 03 October 2017 at 12:50 |

it has vertical battens and we furl it every day without any issues, the battens just lie in line with the forestay. my 105 is 33.5 sqm. i cant remember what the den 4 looked like in 2013 when we bought the yacht and the 105, although i have to admit my wife (first mate) didnt want grey or black sails, the 6 is still wight. looking now i might go for 4 instead.
My cars are seldon and yes you have to drill the deck for the tracks, i had them fitted by the factory so they were already there, and then added the cars myself. I put some cleats on the supports for the secondary winches so no need to drill for those. i can try and find some photos if you like |

We have acquired, but not yet tested, a 105 Epex from Elvstroem. Will need to install tracks on the coachroof, and have sent some prayers to Neptune that the reinforcement points are as indicated the drawings. Not all that worried as those German engineers gave been very reliable with respect to everything else on the ship.
Quite disappointed with the self-tacker, and in hindsight, would have done a 105 from the beginning. The ST has the obvious ease of handling comfort, which is sometimes handy, but minimal ability to trim, and poor pointing ability. Also blew the ST off the tracks. The cart blew of the end-blocks on the track, admittedly in very serious whether, but didn't help my level of confidence in the setup. The point is that when you point just a little to high, or have a difficult tack, the jib flogs with serious force, and the cart whips back and forth determined to blow off those end blocks on the track. All repaired, just Selden parts, no permanent damage, and the most difficult part of the repair was to remove the broken bolts. It is clearly a weak point in the ST setup. The 2*8mm screws were bent, and on one side, broken right off. Not well designed for repeat beatings. So, looking forward to a 105 this season.
