My grab rails are ready at least, I´m very happy with it and wonder why Hanse did not offer it. Thanks to the users who postet their fotos before an gave me a lot of suggestions for that project!

I am also interested in the grab rails. A friend of mine with a Hanse 415 had a problem with the Jefa rudder. The white aluminium box was suddenly loose on the deck. He could move the whole thing including the wheel forward and backwards. The screws were loose on the deck. Did you have made similar experiences? I have the fear that the extra force of the grab rail will make a problem. I wonder if the solution with screws only in the Jefa box is the best solution or should the grab rail also be fixed on the deck.

Greetings Axel

See Samtukti:s comments from Jefa.  The pedestal box is strong enough.  And if the box isn't 100% secure to the hull/floor you are in all kinds of trouble.  I would sort out the pedestal attachment as a matter of urgency

I'd suggest adding fixings down to the deck (inboard) and seat area (outboard) as shown in Mark& Catherine's post earlier in this subject.  This spreads the load between the deck and the Jefa housing.  Mine were sourced by IMG prior to delivery.  I'd be lost without my grab rails.  Paul

Are they tapped into the aluminum?  Or can you get in there to secure a nut?
I'm trying to understand how they are fastened...

I haven't removed any screws to find out, but my guess is that they are either self tapping or machine screws into threaded holes.  Sorry I don't want to disturb mine to find out!
