Does anyone know where I can get new bearings? Have you ever had to replace your bearings?

https://www.jefa.com/rudder.htm Top bearing should be easy enough to replace whole part. Bottom bearing should just be a case of replacing the rollers. But contact Jefa for advice Edited by samuel - 01 August 2019 at 07:15 |

i did this a couple of years ago on my previous boat, Hanse 371 from 2004. It was not that easy to remove the rudder. The bottom bearing is self aligning, but top bearing is not. On the 2004 model the surface where the top bearing is mounted is not 90 deg to the rudder stock and it got stucked. I needed to unscrew the bolts securing the top bearing to be able to get it out. Top bearing is also fixed with sikaflex but this will flex enough to get the bearing aligned with the rudder stock. When re-installing the rollers, use a baloon to keep them in place until you can install the outer ring that secures the rollers.

Hi, I am replacing the rudder on my Hanse 371. Can you tell me if you removed the lower bearing. I have seen that it self-aligning, but I cannot get it to move in the spherical housing to remove it.
Any advice? Thank you

Push the end of the rudder shaft into the bearing and move it around to get it loose then align the bearing with the slot on the bearing housing and pull it out and give it a good clean. Mine had 2 rubber o rings that had to be replaced ( 3mmx 110. NBR from simply bearings) . As I recall there is a link to a video on the Jeffa website that was very helpful.
Thinking back, I used the handle end of the boathook to loosen the bearing.

Thanks, that's the best advice I have had on this, really helpful. I will see if I can get the ball to rotate as you suggest.

The Video (48) Jefa Rudder and bearing service - YouTube
This is a service guide on how to maintain Jefa Marine rudder bearings. This should be done every third year.
The video is made with a Hanse 325. The principle is the same for all Jefa Marine products. MMM, every third year??? I wonder how many people do that?

A superb video which casts a light on what I have been going through recently and puts a lot of common sense into the whole steering mystery and highlights the need for careful maintenance programmes to be adhered to.
Many thanks for posting Duncan
