Do i have to be worried? It is corrosion on the stem that goes in the rudder. Best Peter

Thank you.I will contact Jefa Steering.
I think the aluminium has received som antifoul, not much but it seems to be the explanation. Best regards Peterr

As far as I know, Jefa rudders are sold through. Given that, you would need a lot of corrosion to weaken the rudder to the point of danger. As suggested, share the pictures with Jefa. I did, and they said it was ok.
Just replacing it because it looks bad doesn't consider the actual physics or material science of the situation.

You should use antifoul on your rudder stock - as Jefa instructs (see the instruction sheet on their website). Just make sure it is a product that is ok for aluminum - and that it is applied correctly.

Just an update. I have contacted Jefa, and they can provide a sleeve 3mm, to be glued over the rudder post. This will thicken the post and therefor the bearing ends to be bigger. I have ordered both the sleeve and the bearing this will cost 500 euros. The rudder was quite easy to dismantle, so now I only worry about the source of the problem. Might have been the antifouling that came to close over the years . I use International VC Offshore EU. Best regards peterr |
