Hi All,

Can anyone advise me of a good Simrad service centre here in Germany.  I have just arrived in Kiel and my IS12 wind has failed after 6 years of  faithful service.  The instrument is powered up and the masthead sensor is rotating still. I have checked that 12vdc is going up the mast and some electrical activity is coming down, but there is no speed or direction output on the instrument.

Looking at other posts it looks as if I will have to have my masthead sensor changed to IS20.  As I shall be here in the Baltic for the summer I would like to have the instrument repaired or replaced.

Thanks

Ian

Michael Einfeld installed all my Simrad Equipment (IS20, AP) in 2009. He did a good job.
An alternative is the Böbs Yard in Travemünde.

Yes, 2 years ago he repaired my AP24 and updated my complete system, good guy.

An other option is to contact Navico Germany directly. The number is +49 4621 9613 -0

Dear Peter and All,

Thank you for the advice and I apologise for not responding sooner.  I could not log on to the internet until today.

We are in Heilingenhafen and today at 0745 the problem was fixed.  It took only 3 minutes.  Simnet had lost the IP address of the masthead sensor.  I have looked in the various Simrad manuals and I can find no mention of this type of fault or solution.  Holding down the light button for 3 seconds on the wind instrument whilst the power is switched on enabled the Simnet to refind the masthead sensor.  The technician then just confirmed that all of the other instruments could see the masthead sensor too and the job was done.

I can now confirm that the wind todayat 30 knots is too strong for me to continue eastwards to Warnemunde.

Regards

Ian

Dear All,

As a postscript to my last posting I can report that everything is still well with my masthead sensor.

I really am pleased with the service I received at Heilingenhafen.  The technician could have sold me a new masthead sensor and I would not have know anything to gainsay his advice.  Indeed given the various posts on IS12 masthead sensors I was fully expecting to be told I needed a new one.  I do not take my mast down when laying up for the winter, so since June 2006 my sensor has been taking all the weather thrown at it.

regards

Ian
