Close to ordering a 510. Was wondering what people's experience have been. Issues? Build quality? How does it sail? Satisfied with dinghy garage? Any information would be helpful. Thanks!

Can’t comment on a 510, or the new “0” series at all so waxing lyrical about the handling and balance of my “8” series is irrelevant (much as I like to ;)
From a construction standpoint I’ve found Hanse to be towards the higher end of the mass produced market with generally good hulls and decks, nice molding and finishing quality and perhaps slightly more laminated in stiffening (bulkheads / webs) certainly than some of the French manufacturers I looked at when buying my boat. That may or may not still apply given the “0” series is a French design - but easily determined by poking around under the sole or behind lockers. As I keep saying all the fit out equipment is largely the same for all manufactures from oyster and Hallberg Rassy through to jeanneau - Selden masts, Lewmar deck gear, Elvstrom sails. Even HR are now using cast iron in the keel of their 370 That said, I would try your hardest to get Hanse to fit anodised rather than white powder coated hatch frames. This is known area of failure and I’m staggered they still use them given anodised is the same price. I’m still fixing leaks 7 years in despite having a very good dealer and of course there are a lot of hatches so if you can make this change it will pay dividends over the life of the boat.

Thank you so much super helpful. I am upgrading from a 458 (used for 7 seasons) to the 510. The extra space and extra tanks will come in handy and I have been dreaming of the dinghy garage. Agree with you regarding the comments on quality. My maintenance person, who maintains north of 30 sailboats commented how the hanse quality overall is so superior to the French builders. It is obvious from the laminate quality, the keel plates and bolts etc. the stuff that matters. The little things, like hinges, they can cut some corners which were frustrating. At to your point the hatches. Will let you now my impressions of the 510 but I think the quality improved a bit more too with the "0" series. Thanks!

We've owned a Hanse 510 in a 3-cabin version since last year and are very happy with the yacht overall. The size of the cockpit, the spaciousness below deck, and the dinghy garage are particularly appealing to us. The sailing performance, especially in the 15-20 knot range, is truly enjoyable. The yacht's build quality is excellent. We initially had a few issues with the VHF radio due to a broken cable, but we were able to repair it. When ordering, we recommend adding the Code 0 and the matching dinghy (from AER Marine) at the same time – then you'll enjoy the yacht right from the start!

Thank you so much. Excellent feedback. Have finalized my order and definitely it seems like the aermarine is made to fit well in the dinghy garage. Really appreciate the feedback. The boat fit exactly my space requirements.
Appreciate it!

I have put over 25000 nm on my 505, first owner put 20,000, so mine is “high mileage”. Very pleased with the boat overall, especially “where it matters”. Very good value.
Areas of complaint: terrible brass thuhulls (hopefully they use tru design now, I replaced all of mine) crappy tanks, and I really don’t like their bilges, bulge water routing, no good “low point”, undersized bilge pump, no pump in the sail locker , and how they let water into the ribbed box sections. No cleaning in there possible, and yucky stuff always ends up in bilges. Bilge is the worst part of the boat. Oh, factory DD1 autopilot good quality but undersized and failed repeatedly. I replaced with the DD2, which was not trivial. I would talk to them about an upgrade if they still specify the DD1. See my thread about it. https://www.myhanse.com/my-505-dd2-autopilot-upgrade_topic12431_page1.html Other than that very pleased, lots more good than bad.

thanks! I am upgrading for the 458 and have the same impression as you. the boat has been offshore and behaved very well. built solidly where it matters. bilges are not the high point. there are always pros and cons, but overall was very happy with it! will let you know how i like the 510!
