Hi, does anyone know how Hanse fixed the optional teak to the decks (circa 2013)? We have a a couple of planks on the foredeck that are starting to lift, you can see the original non slip grp deck below, but no sign of either epoxy or silicone.
Before I just try and epoxy them back down I wonder if anyone knows any better! As always any advice would be gratefully received All the best Paul

I had that inquiry to shipyard since I noticed a little crack upon delivery of my new boat, they said for small jobs sikaflex 221 or similar should work, but the shipyard uses some 2 component adhesive. Flexteak in my case to be precise. I postponed changing it even though Hanse sent me the replacement plaquette. Cheers!

Paul,
I think you can assume Hanse use a two pack epoxy to attached the real teak to the deck. This is fairly standard practice for teak decks. Then use a caulking product like Sika 290DC or similar to renew the caulking around the replaced sticks. Wait about 2-3 days before sanding down to the level of the surrounding teak. You may be able to reuse the original teak sticks if they are OK and you can get them up with damage.

Hi Wayne, many thanks for the advice. The pieces are only about 1.2 metres long and straight so will probably replace them as I can almost guarantee that the last bit of each will be fully bonded!

At that time Hanse used prefabricated teak pieces max 8mm thickness ,the whole deck count 10-12 pieces already prefabricated with Sikaflex caulking They glued the pieces to the deck with 2 component glue and vacuum it for 24hours to get al the air out.On some places they have to put a screw to make it plain and nice. After 10 years use and cleaning the thickness of the prefabricated teak pieces is also a problem from the 8mm is only 5mm left more or less

Hi Paul,
Were you able to glue down the planks, and if so any lessons learned? I have a 415 from 2012 with the same issue. I'm considering injecting epoxy but may also replace individual planks. Thanks, Andreas

Hi Andreas, I replaced about 6 individual planks and all of those on the anchor locker lid, old ones came up fairly easily and as all replacement pieces were straight it was an easy job to glue new down.
I previously tried the epoxy under the lifting planks and it didn’t last long. All the best Paul
