Hi all, I want to control the anchor from the helm on my 548, but there is no socket or switches. I checked the electrical diagrams, and it seem there are only wires to the bow.
There are three options wired, wireless or a motor output interface to czone. The wires from the anchor relay below the chart table to the helm would be the cheapest since I have a spare remote handle, so just need to buy the socket. Any suggestions or alternatives? What is the best path from under the chart table, cross to stbd (fuel tank and heater in the path) or port then cross from behind the garage? The diagrams I have from sentinel are generic, so depending on the options, the fuses and wiring seem to change from actual. Is there anywhere to get the as built diagrams? Thanks

Hdajani,
We fitted a Quick wireless remote which we can use from anywhere on the boat. We still have the wired remote but with the wireless unit you don't need to open the forepeak hatch if it is raining. The wireless control "box" is fitted in the forepeak next to the wired remote connection so no need to run any new cabling.

I just did this on my 458.
I ran a 5 core cable from the powerboard to the starboard rope bin where I fitted a second plug for the quick windlass. I already had a wireless remote but wanted additional control and visibility of amount of chain deployed at the wheel. The powerboard does not have a feed from the chain sensor. Rather than run a cable all the way to the bow I "repurposed" one of the two negative cables. If you do a search you will find my post with a picture of the completed installation.

Thanks S&J. Did you have a way to make sure that both controllers are on at the same time? I am worried that any mistake of one pressing up and the other down could cause serious damage to the solenoid. Did you have to install chain counter and a sensor or just the sensor. I have a CHC1103 with an led screen for anchor count.
Your remote looks good in the locker.

My boat came with the sensor installed and the wired remote with the screen to show amount of chain deployed. There is a cable in the bow locker (458) that runs from the socket for the remote to the windlass rotation sensor. As explained, I split the double negative cables that run from the powerboard and used one to connect to the sensor cable to avoid having to get another cable from powerboard to bow.
I only have one plug-in controller but do also use a wireless remote controller. The Quick documentation details connection of multiple controllers and I didn't do anything special to avoid simultaneous up/down requests, however if I have crew, they always take responsibility for the anchor at the bow using the wireless and the display in the rope bin just gives me information about how much chain is deployed. FWI, simultaneous UP and DOWN although not advisable, would cause no damage to the solenoid. It won’t either go up or down depending on which action was first or it would do nothing until one was released.

Hey
We fitted a second anchor controller in the cockpit years ago. We have a problem in the beginning There’s a problem with Lewmar wire remote control and a simple up-down switch in the cockpit. If by accident bought are pressing together the fuse blow.In the original Lewmar remote control there’s a small pcb who make a a small time delay between up and down to protect to push up and down simultaneous to avoid damage on the winch and blowing the fuse. Finally we changed the controller in the cockpit by one who have supplementary a on-off switch with a light indicator to by sure it can not happen again. |
