Although this subject has been aired before I thought I'd share what I have done to overcome this crass design error by Hanse. For those who don't know, you cannot remove the Thruster battery without difficulty.
There are two options. 1) remove the main water tank or 2) remove some wood. I opted for solution 2 which involves surgery. This decision was taken because I don't want this grief twice! Having cut out sufficient wood the battery comes out easily. Our boat was 3.5 years old when the battery died. It was a 90 amp hour Victorin Gel. After much research I finally chose an Optima Bluetop 75 amp hour spiral wound battery. This has greater CCA rating than the Hanse fitted battery & is better suited to the task than an AGM. Hope this contribution is of assistance to Forum members. I'm also contributing another post about the engine starter battery location as this is another stunning Hanse cock-up! |
