If you have a folding prop we would like you to be aware of our experience of the prop failing and jamming in the half open position, giving no drive but massive vibration in the boat. Luckily we were just coming into our berth at the time. There was NO prior warning of failure.
We attach photos so that you can see but the advice from the suppliers is that the prop was worn and should not have been used. With this in mind please be aware that they recommend that the prop must be inspected by them every year after 5 years. We have greased, cleaned and checked the prop every year but did not realise the extent of the wear, which can only be fully assessed by the prop suppliers.

Many thanks for posting, Jon. Prop failure is about the only trick that my boat hasn't played on me the past few years but perhaps it helps that my 14 year old 3-blader is disassembled each year to fit a new anode behind the rope cutter. Will consider getting a specialist flexofold inspection done, however.

Hi
Thats a strange failure. I have problem figuring this out. You anode looks quite fresh so it might not be corrosion? Does the prob have much play? |

Did it jump a tooth on the gearing between the blades due to the teeth having been worn down? Would be interesting to know, as I also have a flexofold on our 371. I am quite sure that has never been inspected by the manufacturer (only by me).

It happened to me (F-o-F 16X12L) but it was consequence of an accidental electrolysis event somewhere in one harbour (we will never know). The pinions on blades were "eaten"
Volvo SD housing died as well with several holes in it. Costly repairs (8000 + EUR) but hopefully insurance paid
