Fellow 301 owners
I bought Wild Cherry last September and she has lived up to all the research and reviews!!great delivery sail from Weymouth back to her new home on the Exe. She exceeded all expectations (which were quite high from knowing the design and reviews) Very keen to get in touch with other owners as well! I had a full survey and also I am a Naval Architect and marine professional by trade so happy to try to help out with queries etc as well!! She is wing keel version and has stainless beaching legs which I think were post new build extras ?? But look well designed if others want info?

New owner here! Bought 'Serendipity' last month & awaiting delivery to Brighton via road trailer at the end of March. Let's keep in touch! I'm still scratching my head where to fit a new 9" plotter I enthusiastically purchased already...

I dont claim to know everything about 301: but I had one for 5 years, sailed round GB. If you search my posts "Perry" you may find some interesting bits. Checkout the mainsheet system traveler and cascaded fast slow tackle, Kicking strut, cascaded backstay and cascaded kicker tackle. Dynema halyards and reef lines. Rudder bearings and dealing with wear of rudderstock. I loved the 301, replaced with 315 [2007] also very good but not as quick upwind. Perry East Cowes Yacht Bloto 3 and 4

Hi,
I have owned my Hanse 301 since 2007 I bought her second hand and she was born 2000.. I bought her in Gosport and moved her to the Isle of Man and to Scotland.. she is a cracking boat.. I am looking at moving her down to the South Coast, hopefully during this season Plymouth is probably the choice but not 100% Perry.. so hopefully might be able to meet up Dave

Had a lot of enjoyment on Wild Cherry as well, they sail SO SO well as I expected from the research !! but great advantage with the winged fin keel draft of 1.08m as tested in taking to the ground on River Exe Sandbanks she sat there very stable for a quick scrub !!

I have a 311 so the space behind the tiller on a 301 does not apply. However, a friend of mine also has limited space so i made him a rail in plastic to go across the vertical push pit stanchions. One could also do the same in hardwood of course but I used Trespa. He was able to fit the mounting bracket there & like mine it is easy to adjust the screen whilst at the helm & is easy to read. I made a hood from polycarbonate for mine & remove it when not aboard. Another place to put it is under the tiller on the face of the vertical cockpitwall. But that is not so good. It does mean that the helm can just look down on it though. Putting them in the cbin bulkhead is no good a s a crew may be sitting against it Having it on a swivel arm in the hatchway is difficult to reach ( & see for some) plus gets in the way for crew. The wires also are liable to snagging Some like to board the boat over the stern. But the unit could be mounted on a swivel off the pushpit upright. Personally I think the best way to board a boat is alongside the shrouds where they provide support for the crew. This picture shows my bracket. The plotter has been removed. The unit below is the autopilot control ![]() Edited by samuel - 04 April 2024 at 13:12 |

Little bit late to the party but hi to the lucky new owners of Wild Cherry and Serendipity!
I’ve owned Karisma, a 2001 301 since 2011. Always happy to engage and learn from others experiences of the boat. When properly set up a 301 will not be out sailed by a boat of equivalent length unless it is a racing design… they live up to their potential, especially upwind. A fantastic fast cruiser but because of this best performance comes from being able to drive the boat through the reefing gears. Early upgrades i’d suggest are cruise lam sails, better winches and the tidesmarine mast track to get the best from the boat.
