Cockpit table varnish removal

After our first truly good sail on Saturday, the gales returned on Sunday.     40kt+ for much of the day.  Once again the project list came out.  This time the cockpit tables..

Remove 3 years of varnish from the tables with a heat gun and scraper.    Then 80 grit, 120 grit, 220grit sanding to be followed by 10 coats of oil with 320grit sanding in between.   The catalyst was my new salon table.    It just didn't look right to have the cockpit tables looking a bit "layered".. :-)

	If I didn't know better I'd think you were in the UK! A series of low's seem to come every weekend at the momment. So much so that I've started doing small DIY projects and got the tools back out! I'm making little oak fiddles to divide up some on the interior shelving (useful for stopping phones / keys sliding around). What has impressed me is the tolerances Hanse work to. In all sections I'm working in every width along a shelf is not even a mm out of true. Really impressive Those tables look thick and substantial btw

	The storms hitting the UK probably originated out of the American midwest (tornado alley), then came thru New England, crossed Nova Scotia and then moved across the Atlantic If you visit the factory (I did twice) the laser cutting of wood (almost zero waste) is impressive to watch. In Taiwan, with my prior Hylas, it was all unique to the boat and each piece of wood was made to fit just that boat. With the Hanse, the cabinetry and everything fits with almost perfect tolerances from boat to boat. Nice manufacturing quality. I'm happy with the tables. There are a few things I'm not happy with on the boat (like the factory thru-hulls and ball valves), but that is not manufacturing but component choice and installation.
