What is the best way to look after the teak in the cockpit? I have been told it is best to not treat it with any oil or coating but would like to know how everyone keeps it clean etc. In particular, has anyone got a good soap or cleaning solution for it? Is there a waterproofing treatment for it? 371 - #235 |

If you want to keep it clean just take water-water-water and a brush with soft bristles. Some people like to take some soft soap for a deeper cleaning. Important is to move the brush across the teak fibre. You never should move the brush lengthwise to the fibre. Saltwater should be prefered to fresh water. Edited by Stella*Nova |

I made the fatal mistake of using teak oil on our cockpit seats. DON'T USE IT..... it made a dreadful mess of the corking in between the teak and has taken the best part of 2 years to get it right again. I now only use water. Must admit have not tried the salt water - but it does make sense. Sue |
