Has anyone had problems with water cooling hose wear on their boat?  While changing the oil recently I noticed that the sea water hose running from the pump on the front of my engine up to a sea water filter was worn half way through from rubbing against the corner of the starboard steel mounting rail for the engine.  I cut off the damaged area, shortening the hose by some 5cm. and re-connected it to the pump.  Shortening the hose took out the slack and drew the hose away from the sharp corner of the steel rail. I also wrapped a piece of "sacrificial" material around the hose to provide an extra margin of safety.

Zoomie,

What year is your boat and what model engine do you have?

Bob,

I think my boat was built mid-2003 and my engine is a Yanmar 3GM30F.  The engine now has 89 hours on it.  It was the broker’s demo boat and I bought it in August 2004.

Thanks Zoomie,

I have the same engine and will check it as soon as I am back at the boat.
