Traveller

Hi,

please more infos :-).

Is it the yard option traveller?

If not, what kind of traveller and how do you install it?

Can you remove it?

Is it better for the control of your ship?

Hello,

it is not the one from Hanse. As far as I know they now build in the higher Harken Track without wood support under it. I wanted the track as low as possible and without any screws to see. So I ordered the sliding bolt low profile version with the new CB Mid Range Traveller with delrin ball bearing (I don't have the number at the moment!) and also the new end-control fittings. After cutting an pre-assambling the track I realised that the new Traveller doesn't fit on the (old) track (nobody told me from Harken!). The solution was to switch to the old model of the traveller because there is no low profile sliding bold track for the new one. The only bad thing is that I needed to put distance sheaves under the cleats because the screws from the cleates reached the metal of the fittings.

It took a while to cut the wood in the right way but I believe it was the time worth. The track is bolted through the deck and I make 25mm wholes from inside to get under the ceiling. I also bolted the teak wood under the track every 7,5 cm. There are only vertical bolts also in the wood, the wood itself is not fixed to the boat. That works fine until now.

It is not part of the concept to remove the traveller hower it would be possible e.g. in the future for a possible new owner (not in the next few years :-)) )

I also replaced the main sheet for the easymatic 6:1 / 3:1 which is just enough. In strong winds you have to pull hard but its ok. The 8:1 version from easy or harken are quite big!

The traveller helps a lot to control the boat because you can un-power the main very quick. I will replace the 6mm Traveller Sheeting because the 3:1 is also just enough. On the other hand for middle wind its perfect!

The next projekt will be an extra sheave for the backstay-control and at least 12:1 for the vang!

I think its not interesting enough for the average Hanse customer. Hot water and a fridge for the 312 as standard would make more sence!

And all together it is not cheap to make it good.

	That looks very good, Thomas. I'm thinking of installing a traveller on my 341 later this year or next year maybe.
