Sunny day, nice breeze then the wife looked up at the gib and said "Are you supposed to be able to see daylight through that sail". The original east sail has now seen better days!

I still want to use the self tacker and know where I can get a set of original sails at a good price but is it worth paying more and getting something else that gives a bit more performance - we only ever really sail in light winds. Can you fit a bigger/fuller sail and still use the self tacker?

Answers on the back of a £20 note please.

Thanks

David S (Morgelyn)

Sure. One solution would be to use a full batten furling jib. The battens makes it possible to increase the sail area somewhat. I don't know who would be able to supply such saiuls in the UK, however.

An example would be the Vertech jib made by Lundh Sails. Have a look at their ad pamphlet. (They've got a very Hanse-friendly web page, though the language isn't English, the price quotes aren't euro, and the 300/301 aren't listed in the menu. )
