Hello,
I sail a lot solo or with inexperienced people on board.
I am thinking about placing a wireless remote controle switchbox with chaincounter on our 545.
We have a lewmar H3 windlass and the are standard already fitted with solenoids, reed switch and magnet for chain counter applications.
Lewmar have a 3 button wirless remote controle who fit easy and directly to the H3 but without chain counter. The also have the chain counter AA560 who fit for the H3 these two together will do the job but are expensive and I think I have to pull a extra cable(4 or more wires?) from the bow to the cockpit for thisConfused.
Iv'e looked by Lofrans, the have OCEANIC a combinated complete remote wirless system but I am not sure this will works with the Lewmar H3 reed switch and magnet. I did not found a answer,or any wiring diagram to connect the Lofrans switchbox to the Lewmar H3,on the net.
Did any of you have experience with this item?

Hi,
Two months ago I connected a 3 button Lewmar remote control to our Lewmar windlass. The connection was made to the remote control plug of the windlass and not to the winlass control box. Lewmar provides a leaflet with many alternative ways to connect it and it is marketed as a standalone product not specifically designed for their windlasses. The same probably applies to the chain counters.

But I really wonder why you need a chain counter. While setting the anchor I just count the seconds (1001,1002,1003,...) while pressing the down button. The speed of the windlass while dropping the anchor is always the same (about 45cm/sec) , so I can select how many meters I want to drop so that I have about 20 meters of chain lying on the sea bottom. Then I pull the chain a few meters buy traveling backwards without releasing chain to set the anchor. After I am happy that the anchor holds I release more chain as required by counting the seconds. To retrieve the anchor I always do it from the bow since the chain needs supervision and manual help in the chain locker - so there is no need for any chain counter.

Hi Panos,
Thanks for your replay.
Yes,there are only 3 wires coming out the H3 windlass (the switchbox and everthing is build in) I know I can connect the 3 button wirless remote control reciever just in parallel on the  plug of the handheld remote control standard mounted by Hanse.I just need a extra ground for the 12V supply of the reciever. The cost of the 3 button wirless remote kit is about 200 Euro.
The cost of the Lofrans OCEANIC or PROJEKT kit with chain counter is only 150 Euro more.
Thats just why I am searching for a wiring diagram of the Lewmar AA560 (750 EURO)chain counter on the H3 windlass and the wiring diagram of the Lofrans OCEANIC or PROJEKT (350 EURO)device,so I can combine those with the Lewmar H3.
And for 150 Euro more I dont have to count(1001,1002,1003...) any more.
Panos, did you use a extra antenna from Lewmar or is the reciever signal strong enough?

Hi,

The receiver signal is very strong ! I can operate the windlass from 30 meters away. As for the chain counter, my opinion is that sailing has already become a job for an electronic expert and things go wrong faster than I can fix them. So I try to keep it as simple as possible - this is extremely difficult with the 630e since it is already a "technological kindergarden"
