I currently own a 2005 Hanse 411. Love the boat and really like the way she sail. However I have noticed that all the stantions are turning mat and beginning to show traces of rust!. Has anybody else seen this. regards Stephen

Hi Stephen On our 331 the stantions started to discolour and look rusty - but we cleaned them up with some auto white paste stuff - sorry can't remember the name of it - but they came up as good as new. The paste is a product that you can get from car stores like Halfords or DIY stores. For some reason Auto Sol comes to mind ..... Sue |

Hi Stephen Had the same problem on371#220,but only on 4 stauncions. Hanse replaced them,all ok. I think that there may have been a bad batch because most of the boats delivered to Australia around that time had the same problem with rust where the top lifeline goes through. Hi The correct name is SOLVOL AUTOSOL a very mild metal polish works brilliantly on stainless. BTW the stainless needs to be clean in order to be stainless !!! its odd logic but that is what the metal stockholders say. Regards Geoff |

Hi Stephen, I had the same problem with my 312. During the first season I spotted rust on the stanchions - some quite bad - but it all polished off. As Geoff has said, the secret is to keep them clean. Stainless steel needs to be exposed to the air or it will tend to rust. The problem appears to be salt deposits isolating the surface from contact with oxygen in the air. I have now solved the problem by washing the salt off the stanchions fairly regularly and the rust problem has gone away. Hope this helps. Regards Alan |

Hi Stephen, that's not so nice. Never seen it on our Hanse (2003) maybe contact Hanse UK with this problem? Or did you tried to clean it allready?
