The mast base is a cast part. I did not want so far to drill a bigger hole into it.
Maybe i will do this sometime.
I just wnted to give an update on the issue, so everybody can check the pins in case!

Rutgerson block has worked fine on our 342 with Sparcraft mast so far (please remember that the setup differs a lot between Hanse models and manufactoring years).
I can see a benefit to use the beatiful blocks from Garhauer when you have a higher load, the SWL is correlated to the price:-)
Cheers,
Skipper

I thought it is a time to thank Skipper for useful information, and share my own experiences of the new blocks.

We have used those Rutgerson blocks two seasons, and are really satisfied. Original Lewmar blocks got damaged so that at least couple of them had to be changed every year. As mentioned before, there seems to be two reasons for the problem: the unnecessary swivelling forkhead, and the lack of supporting springs.

Here is a picture of our solution. The supporting spring’s dimensions are 27 mm diameter and 48 mm high. They are easy to install and remove, and cost only 1 euro a piece.

Just noticed this post and was wondering if anyone has changed any cheek blocks on a 415? If so with what and how. I have both main halyard and vang with somewhat wide cheeks!

Hi,

I'm about to do the same thing - replace the clevis pins and upgrade, at least, for the most loaded blocks. I also intend to replace the small pins with material SS 17-4, the best stainless steel when it comes to strength.
How did you remove the mastbase?
