This is just a fibreglass moulding. It is cosmetic rather than structural. Having said that I was always happy to step on mine and didn't notice any flex.

We have just bought a 2014 445 and are excited to get to know the boat. Is there a list of Volvo engine numbers that has the shutting down problem? Ours runs great 125 hours so not worn out but how do I proactively evaluate the electronics. As a result of Tranquilos post I’m having the steering cable checked and retentions.

I also have a 2014 445 which I have owned from new with no significant issues from the Volvo equipment.
Best bet would be to contact Volvo Penta with your engine serial number.

in 2017 with my hanse 375, i had problems with the upper bearing of the rudder, the screws were broken, so ovalization of the support, and the oval movements also broke one of the screws on jeffa DD1. this anecdote happened 900 miles from the West Indies. I will not go on an ocean cruise without inspecting the bearing attachment and even reinforcing it. Hanse sailboats have very large rudders and the continuous efforts over several days are very important. I think that the use of the autopilot constantly underestimates the efforts and we keep too much canvas in the trade winds. I will not hesitate to use a hydrovane so as not to use my gournail and also have a backup rudder. moreover I will save a lot of energy

My 2014 build / 3915 launched 385 had no problems over 6 seasons and 500 hours with the Volvo. I believe the MDI issues occurred later, possibly 2016-2017?

Great discussion - we have a one year old 388 with very few problems. However one issue is still under review- the alloy plates under the deck joint that the rear deck fittings such as pad eyes, cleats, safety rails go through were not positioned correctly and the bolts through the deck missed the plate or ended up very close to the edge of the plate. These can be seen from inside the rear storage between the deck and hull joint. Our dealer is working on a fix but it is a serious manufacturing error. Only other problem was the fuse allowing charging from solar and engine power blew - no reason ??? this worries me as the batteries were down to 12.1V. Replacement fuse seems to work.
We have installed NAIS 500 AIS out separate from the B&G V60 VHS and we have a Yanmar so hopefully all good.
