For myself I had a davit made in New York and for me it is the ultimate but not easy to finf somebody to buil it. I t could hold 500pounds easy. And my boat got smashed by an Huricane 2 years ago in Treadwell Bay Marina new York where the weather machin of the marina registered 93 miles per hour wind. My dinghy was up on the arch and only the wind indicator on top of the mast got smahed when it hit the dock. Imagine the floors ofthe boat where on the coach......

Tim, Attached is another photo of the starboard Davit mounting. Note that the main arm of the Davit is attached on a rotating pivit into the transom. There is a 2.5 inch flat space that was perfect for this mount. Two bolts are used to secure this with back mounting plates. These were fairly easy to install. The main weight of the Davit is attached to the existing railing with the black railing mount shown. This railing is also reinforced with the ~45 degree arm back to the forward deck secured with 3 screws and a back plate below. There is a stablizer bar which is NOT shown but fits on top of the two Davits, just above the pully system. This keeps the Davits tight during sailing. KATO makes serveral version of the stablizer bar (Solar Mount, Locking Plate, etc) that can be used depending on your requirements. I am also using a nylon strap just as a secondary support on each end to keep the Dinghy stable during heavy surf. If the Dinghy is NOT desired for a given trip, it can be left behind and the Davits will swing in and be out of the way. Also note the 6/1 pully opton. Normally 4/1, this gives extra strength due to the weight of the engine. Mike

With respect, why compromise the modern open look of your boat by adding this form of structure? Davits that either telescope away (Osculati) or slip in / out (Simpson Laurance) will give you dinghy storage for short hops - and you've more than enough redundant deck space to fit walk on solar panels.
Maybe others see it differently and if so I do apologise, but to add this clobber to the back end of a Hanse not only puts lots of weight just where youll never want it, but IMHO it looks about as good as a tow bar on a 911 Turbo.

A Beneteau is a Beneteau and ading the structure at the time was as bad as another boat with a nice big arch where you fit everything.
We chose the Hanse for alot of reason and one of them is the incredible look of the boat. The flat cabin the evened out atches and the opened transom. We have found davits to our liking,,,,,,,,,,,but one thing remains How to, not loose my fridge and freezer? Flexible solar panels on the roof will not do the job the wattage is to lo and putting a set of rigid 130watts is a bit of a problem also. I wouldn't want to make holes on roof of the cabin or is it the only way? Our boat is being built in september we still have time to decide all this I will look up the davits you have mentioned Thank you |

Why don't you use a genset and a good invertor! Cheaper, reliable and save the 'elegance' of your Hanse? Regarding the dinghy, I don't like sailing with the tender bending over the stern: If I do not use it I store it! And at night I use a halyard to store it over the deck. I reckon it is sometime boring but I prefer sailing my Hanse than driving a fully feature mobil home with some sails on the top. When travelling abroad as we are doing, you can see that most of the boats you meet are carrying huge structure on their stern with solar pannel antennas wind generator.....and most of them are running short of energy.. and the matter is one if not the only one subject of discussions! After nearly one year and some 10000 milles I will keep our options... and save my tiam for sailing a real sailing boat!! Alain |

We ordered a full size generator for different matters like fridge and freezer. But having these equipment working in self sufficiance is still agold.
Having a alot of batterys I wonder how long can we keep the fridge and freezer on a single charge? On my Beneteau I had an Addler Barber fridge and freezer and it was a terrible demand of energy. Having a gen that works hours everyday is not an ecological solution. As far as the davit when you travel with the boat sailing is 5% percent of the time the rest is visiting, that meens going to shore every day...... We will be travelling the Entire Med. I'm glad to have a brain storming on this matter it helps the focus on the real necessity's |

Hanse actually fabricated a great arch for my 411. I am not sure they would do this for you, but worth asking. Til supervised the design and construction, and his work was top notch. The arch has built-in davits, supports two 80 watt panels, a radar mount and enough options for other antennas. It also makes a great chinning bar. I have photos but was unsuccesful appending them here. |

Just one last point if you do plan to spend a lot of time in the Med, is to remember most marinas willl see you parked in reverse with entry / exit via a passerell from the transom to the dock.
From our experience it might be worth taking this into consideration when planning a substantial davit / solar panel structure.
