I have installed the for Hanse common Simrad IS 20 stuff, with an additional IS20 Graphic.
On the displays of this configuration I can display the temperature. Last week it showed a temp of 15,77degrees celsius. I'm absolutely sure the real temp was a lot colder, since I had to defrost my wife after the trip. because of this I'm curious what this temp represents and where/how the temp is measured. Any idea's? Regards, Ron |

The water temperature is measured in the depth/speed/temp sensor. My guess is that you have an Airmar DST800 which measures all three in one unit.
Since I got my boat I have had two sensors replaced because they suddenly started to show temperatures around 60 degrees. I.e. one reason for erratic information could be that the sensor has packed in. I hate when that happens. The other reason I have noted is that when I run the heater the temperature rises. Last winter I noted that it would show 1 degree before I turned the heater on and 5 degrees in the morning. I find it reasonable that both the hull and the compartment where the sensor is located is warmed up and that the temperature shown is a mix between water temperature and the temperature of the immediate surroundings. Ah, thanks Johan,
My readings are about 60 degrees and I thougt it might be a calibration problem. Now I know, It's just an open your wallet problem, as so often.

Next year, I'm replacing the Simrad system with a Nexus system.

interesting this, mine also shows a water temp of over 60deg C. Those like me in the English channel will know that it is very unlikely to raise above 15 deg C in late summer, I've always suspected the sensor but I've been reluctant to change it it case it does not solve the problem. The senser is an Airmar.
