We have a problem as the shut off handle for the overboard discharge ball valve has sheared off. This is in the open position and we have no leaks. However in order to be able to use the holding tank we need to be able to close this valve. we want to insert an intermediary valve as a temporary measure so we don't have to lift the boat out to effect a repair. having studied the lay out of all the pipework we can't work out how the whole system works! Can anyone supply us with a schematic diagram of all the various pipes that come and go to the tank and skin fittings please?
Thanks |

I am not sure if the pipe on a 411 is the same as a 370; however if it is you have the same problem as me.
My cure was ram a bung in the outlet and replace the tap whilst in the water, if the outlet is the same as my 370 then you can reach the outlet as is not far under water; if you are in the mood you could take a halyard from top of mast and winch the whole boat over a few degrees, this would take the whole valve out of the water. simon |

Hi,
I agree with Gertha- you can change the valve with the boat in the water. Just have a plan B ready in case something goes wrong. The principle of operation is straightforward: the wast water tank is between the head and the sea. The black water from the head always goes first to the tank and if the valve is open free flows to the sea. On the contrary if the valve is closed the tank gets full. You can empty the tank either by opening the valve or by sucking the black water from the deck fitting at the marina terminal. Regularly cleaning the waste water tank with hot water and detergent and lubricating the valve is very important. Edited by panos - 15 July 2012 at 08:50 |

sorry Panos, this is not the way it works on the 411. the waste tank is build under the bunk in the after cabin, there is a (manual) whale pump connected to the tank and the waste has to be pumped out manually. the toilet is connected to a two way valve, into the tank or straight outside.
So under the sink in the bathroom you will find 2 valves, one (left side) is the outlet of the waste tank, the other one is the 2 way valve from the toilet (actually there is a third one, a small one for the sink in the bathroom).

asking to Panos: hi, to clean the waste water tank, I imagine, you will have to pump clean water + detergent in the tank closed. But doing so, don't you risk to damage the pump rubber gaskets? Is there some particular product to use? Thanks a lot for your answer and fine winds! Diego

Hi Diego,
you can normaly use "Kukident" cleaning tabs for the third teethes! It's working very well, beleive me! I hope, that the brand is still the same in Italy as it is in Germany. br |

@bozzello: it seems that your tank works differently, so it might be dangerous to use my recommendation. In my boat there are no pumps or valves, the tank empties by gravity so there is no risk.

Hi Sailkoop and Panos, thank you for your useful suggestions. That because before reading Panos message I considered the wc draining were usually direct, bypassing the waste water tank, instead of a waste water system which always transit in the tank and then out. On last sunday, I pumped clean hot water + dishes soap in the waste tank to remove deposits and clean it, after having close the draining valve. Next weekend, opening the valve, I will drain all the water empting the tank (in the large sea, if possible, or eventually in the river, where I am moored). In un other time I will use kukident tablets (We have thee same brand too). Regards Diego
